Toxic culture

Recommend

Business outlook

Pros

Very good work life balance.

Cons

- A toxic culture can be seen across different departments which implies issues from the very top trickling down. - Huge issue within IT of cronyism, if you are not ex-Direct Energy/NRG person then zero hopes of ever progressing or even being heard out. - Massive reliance on outside vendors to do any actual work but also to make all decisions around the work. This has created an extremely non-innovative work culture.

Pros

Decent pay compared to other places.

Cons

Executive leadership does not care about their employees. The mantra here is "reward good work with more work." If you work here, expect very little work/life balance. Motiva refuses to hire help when help is needed, instead opting to throw more on everybody who is already suffocating under their workload, with jobs that don't fall under their own job functions, but somebody else's.

Pros

The refinery itself is incredible (huge, many processes to choose from, tons to learn). 9/80s is a huge plus. Benefits are decent. Corporate is great. Everyone I met at corporate was supportive, happy, and cared a lot. Work life balance isn’t terrible, but depends on what units you’re assigned to.

Cons

Pay is lower than competition. Harassment at the refinery is rampant. Harassment is constant, often sexual and includes managers/supervisors. Other forms of harassment include spear campaigns, gossip, aggressive yelling, etc. Management is either involved or will not support you and will gaslight you if you bring it up as a concern so they can avoid responsibility/confrontation. Witnessed many safety concerns including managers overriding stop work authority, almost causing massive explosions, biased investigations, and pressuring their employees to hide recordable injuries. HR there to protect the company and management, not help you but that’s honestly normal for any company.
