Good Company

Pros

Offer competitive pay, bonuses, and benefits packages Exposure to one of the largest refineries in North America, and valuable hands-on experience with complex industrial systems. Great people to work with.

Cons

As a large enterprise, decisions may be more company-focused than employee-driven, which can create uncertainty during restructuring or business changes.

A decent company

Pros

It’s an okay company overall, typically what you would expect from a corporation. Good pay, nice people, somewhat okay career advancement opportunities, relatively smaller size makes it easy to know everyone and be connected with leadership. Very little layoffs over the past decade.

Cons

The Saudi ownership means that it’s difficult for many things to get approved through the governance process - even the CEO doesn’t have much spending authority. Historically had a lot of re-orgs which makes things unstable.

Pros

The refinery itself is incredible (huge, many processes to choose from, tons to learn). 9/80s is a huge plus. Benefits are decent. Corporate is great. Everyone I met at corporate was supportive, happy, and cared a lot. Work life balance isn’t terrible, but depends on what units you’re assigned to.

Cons

Pay is lower than competition. Harassment at the refinery is rampant. Harassment is constant, often sexual and includes managers/supervisors. Other forms of harassment include spear campaigns, gossip, aggressive yelling, etc. Management is either involved or will not support you and will gaslight you if you bring it up as a concern so they can avoid responsibility/confrontation. Witnessed many safety concerns including managers overriding stop work authority, almost causing massive explosions, biased investigations, and pressuring their employees to hide recordable injuries. HR there to protect the company and management, not help you but that’s honestly normal for any company.
