Pros

Pros - collaborative environment and company culture is positive for the most part.

Cons

Cons - mismanagement of work and utilization. Younger Engineers are often chastised for low utilization and higher engineers often don't share the workload to keep utilization balanced. All Engineers have the same ABET accredited degree and should be allowed a chance to work on what older personnel is working on. No company car like bigger firms and contract language for mileage isn't considerate of long project visits.

I'm sorry you decided to leave CHA, and I agree our teams are collaborative and we have a positive company culture. Managing utilization can be tricky and we understand that we need to support our managers to better navigate that balancing act. I’m sorry you had an experience that was less than ideal. CHA is growing, and our leaders understand we can’t just grow, we must get better too. Thank you for your feed back and I wish you the best of luck. I hope that you would consider us as an employer for you in the future.

Thank you for giving us a review. We agree! our culture is strong, and our projects are varied and interesting! Joining a new business that is growing fast and doing critical and complex work can result in a slow start. We work hard to on-board and integrate our new employees so that they can have a positive impact on our shared success as quickly as possible. But there is always room for improvement, and we are currently exploring ways to continue to improve onboarding for all our staff. Glad to see stuck with us and are now really getting all the benefits of starting your career with CHA!

I’m happy to hear you are enjoying the flexible environment CHA offers our employees; however, I’m a little concerned to know that your work is easy. We pride ourselves on the exciting and challenging project we get, and our staff get to work on. I hope that you have been able to work on some of those projects! I’m sorry to hear you don’t feel you have any growth opportunities. Our career path for engineers is an accelerated one. Engineers joining right out of college have opportunities for promotion every couple of years. You should check out our career maps and develop a plan to drive your career at CHA. We are happy to help you design your own future with CHA; feel free to reach out to me directly or your HR Business Partner.

Pros

Other younger staff are all feeling similarly burnt out and frustrated, so we’ve been comfortable going to each other for support.

Cons

1. Everyone I work with is burnt out due to being spread too thin. 2. Lack of training for younger employees. 3. Ineffective PMs who don’t actually manage much about a project. Bad scopes resulting in projects easily going over budget. 4. No urgency with replacing engineers who leave. Particularly ones with a specific skillset that the team needs. 5. Lack of quality control (or the QC review is too quick and put off until it’s too late to do a thorough job) 6. Benefits are average when other companies offer far above average. No Christmas bonus. CHA does do spot bonuses for performance but I have not seen them often. 7. Lack of joy and lack of culture. It is hard to feel fulfilled and passionate about work when we don’t do any outings as teams and there’s very minimal office events. Everyone I work with is burnt out and the passion is dying. Turnover risk is high. 8. The company seems to value money and winning jobs over retaining employees and keeping them happy.

Thank you for sharing your experience at CHA. We couldn’t agree more, we do have a wonderful company culture, based on acceptance of support. We do have great benefits and they get better every year!! And our work structure is great, we agree! We are structured for growth, allowing for more opportunities for everyone. I’m disappointed you feel we have a lot of turn over. CHA is experiencing our lowest turnover since pre-pandemic days. More people are choosing CHA and choosing to stay at CHA!! We pride ourselves on creating a positive and respectful environment for all our employees and we can see the impact it is having; our turnover is at a record low!!

Pros

Great company, great culture and people

Cons

To get a fair market compensation as a loyal employee requires above and beyond contribution. As typical, loyalty doesn't pay.

I’m so happy you left a comment on our Glassdoor page!! And I agree 100% - we have a great culture!! As for our compensation practices and philosophy, at CHA we focus on fairness, internal equity and being competitive in the market. We strive to ensure our employees are compensated competitively and I feel we do a really good job at that, although there is always room for review and improvement. Additionally, CHA is a pay for performance company; if someone on our team regularly goes above and beyond, their compensation should reflect their effort. Happy to have a conversation with you about CHA’s compensation philosophy and work through any concerns you may have. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you want to discuss.

I'm glad you experience the CHA culture the way it is intended to be experienced. Flexible, growth, opportunity! At CHA we value and reward hard work, creative thinking, collaboration and initiative! Admittedly, I'm confused by the cons you've listed above as they seem in direct conflict with your pros. Our culture and structure allow for flexibility and growth - it sounds as if you have experienced that and benefited from it. Perhaps I'm missing something. Happy to meet and discuss so I can understand better where you think we can improve. Just give me a call and lets connect.

Dysfunctional

Recommend
CEO approval
Business outlook

Pros

Flexible work schedules, decent health insurance

Cons

Project managers are severely overworked leading to new engineers learning everything on their own with high utilization rates. There is a lot of gossiping, managers overseeing their best friends, and extremely dysfunctional teams with people openly breaking down in the office. If you can function on your own you can do decently well, but the culture needs a lot of work. I saw several new engineers given utilization rates around 95% who were not given much work to do and then were chastised for not hitting their utilization.

Thank you for sharing your perspective and for recognizing our flexible work options and benefits. We respectfully disagree with the characterization of our culture and teams. While expectations in a consulting environment are high, we place strong emphasis on accountability, collaboration, and professional growth. Utilization goals are established with business needs in mind and are supported through active project planning and manager engagement. We continuously invest in training, leadership development, and clear performance expectations to ensure employees—especially early‑career professionals—are positioned to succeed, using a broad range of data points to guide ongoing improvement. We appreciate the opportunity to respond and wish you continued success in your career.
