Cons

Summary: If you love to partake in office politics, want to get paid way less than industry average with no career growth and earn less year over year due to inflation with the added bonus of fear with regards to getting fired/laid off at any time (individuals & teams were axed without cause) then look no further, Xe is the right place for you. Full review: Over half a decade ago, Xe was a company that provided amazing perks, had above market pay, cutting edge technology, was a leader in its space, customer centric and was expanding its teams like a weed. The crown jewel of the company was the almost unicorn-like culture. A culture that is one in a million, so rare and hard to find that kept hard working talented people around for decades. Xe was a company filled with top talents in every single seat who cared and devoted countless off work hours to make sure things were completed. The top talents that have left all voiced their opinions on how they would have stayed at Xe forever but were forced to leave due to the horrible management and leadership but no management would ever acknowledge this fact. A quick search on LinkedIn and you can find that most of the former devs have made it to either FAANG or other big tech / prestigious companies with extremely high bars to get in. The C-Suite is oblivious to this, and what’s even more infuriating is that the local leadership in the office will rather sacrifice people under them who have worked hard to get these local leaders to where they are today than spend any ounce of effort trying to fight for them. While FAANG and big tech companies are paying absolutely insane packages and doing everything to keep their tech talents from leaving, you will quickly learn that Xe is doing the exact opposite and would love for you to resign in order to save some operational costs for the business. Even with a non-existent hiring bar at Xe, you’ll find that the company is really struggling to hire any talent at all. All of this started after the acquisition by Euronet. A shift in management started to take place. Every year, like a yearly tradition, a new group of executives are brought in to replace the old ones that couldn't produce any meaningful results. Every year, the new C-Suite gets filled with unqualified clowns who think they know everything there is to know in the world but have absolutely no experience in this field. Toxicity and incompetence once again starts trickling down from the C-Suite all the way down to its common workers. Soon, the only metric that matters to anyone would be the profits, but ironically, the more focus was put on profits, the less profits the company made. Instead of making a great product even better, the execs decided that the grand vision will be to crack their whips on the local management to crack their whips on the devs to release a subpar product in order to shove subpar products the customers don’t need in their face. Living in a delusional world of their own, they’ll pat each other execs’ backs on their failures only for the CEO and other C-Suite members to eventually make their annual exit in disgrace. One can easily see the negative slew of comments in the app stores as the result of another failed attempt to whip out a redesign of an app with inferior technology, filled with bugs, losing a ton of loyal users in the process. Anyone who attempts to rationally explain their ideas in order to improve the company’s products are fired or let go. Voices are never heard, retrospectives never improve anything, the same mistakes happen over and over again. This along with extremely subpar pay created a massive exodus of the company, losing 90% of its devs in a single year (without any replacement hires). The competent devs left have to fill a giant gap, slave driven to do the work of 5 people each, while the incompetent devs are left to roam free with no code committed in years. With financial targets constantly missed year over year, there has been absolutely no incentive to keep their most valuable talents with deep knowledge of every single product. Every dev who leaves or gets fired is seen as cost savings to the bottom line. With millions of dollars saved with employee exits without replacements, the company still fails to produce profits and meet the targets. Devs have never seen a single performance review or a raise in years and promises of change have always failed to materialize. Your salary will lose against inflation as your performance increases and you take on more responsibility each year. Nobody will care about you, your efforts will never be appreciated or even recognized. The only thing anyone cares about is saving their own butt. The company has now resorted to fake reviews in order to boost its score on glassdoor, readers beware. Good companies have minimal turnovers. Average companies have turnovers but manage to hire to replace those headcounts. Xe has massive turnovers and has failed to rehire anyone and effectively lost 90% of it’s headcount in software development. The company now has resorted to outsourcing the work to people in Chile, you probably can make your own conclusion on what this means. Stay far far away.
