Layoffs and Decline

Pros

Great software and tools at your disposal

Cons

Terrible leadership at C suite and executive levels. So far removed from what is actually happening at desk level. Too many cooks in kitchen in terms of management. With most having zero clue on how to run a business and how to retain staff. Terrible decisions made after terrible decisions for years. Business will continue to decline because of management and the lack of any sort of care about employees. Terrible that decisions on how to grow business was an utter failure across the board resulting in so many layoffs. There is zero light at the end of the tunnel and no chance of digging out of the hole they are in.

Pros

Supportive team environment – After some early organizational changes, I’ve landed on a team that is collaborative, communicative, and genuinely supportive. Strong teamwork makes day-to-day work smoother and more manageable. Clear structure and processes – The role is highly structured, with established processes that help keep work organized and predictable. I usually know what my day will look like, which helps with efficiency and work quality. Process-driven culture – When processes are followed, work flows well and expectations are clear. This creates consistency and accountability across the team. Internal mobility opportunities – When positions open up in other offices or departments, internal employees are often considered first, making it possible to explore new roles within the company. Stable day-to-day responsibilities – The work is consistent with manageable challenges, which is great for someone who values routine and clarity in their role.

Cons

Frequent layoffs – The company has a pattern of layoffs occurring once or twice a year. Even highly tenured employees (15–25 years) are not immune, which creates ongoing job security concerns for myself and coworkers. Lack of transparency around terminations – At times, coworkers appear to be let go with little explanation, which can impact morale and trust in the company. Compensation imbalance – I feel like candidates and recruiters are often prioritized financially (bonuses, incentives), while operational support staff have no bonuses (unless you win an award) and minimal year-end recognition for the holidays.

Pros

Recognizable brand that can boost your resume Exposure to clients across industries Opportunity to earn well during good months (not consistent)

Cons

Expected to post jobs even when no roles are open, leading to unnecessary overwhelm as recruiters field constant questions about fake postings Unreasonable daily metrics that make work/life balance nearly impossible Support from leadership disappears the moment business slows down Toxic positivity is pushed during obvious downturns, even as quiet layoffs happen in the background Gaslighting around performance and morale - told to “stay positive” while being micromanaged or iced out Advancement is driven more by favoritism and office politics than actual performance Leadership lacks transparency, especially around decisions that directly impact your role

Pros

There are some genuinely nice people that are willing to help you out. Profitably company.

Cons

Leadership chooses sides, and it's their way or the highway. Just like a military academy. They say they've never had mass layoffs, but will let people go on a whim for whatever reason they choose. A person I started with was let go a little over a month after starting, because their old manager left, and new manager didn't like them. Robert Half spits people out faster then they bring them in.

Pros

Some of my coworkers were up to date with the latest software technologiess and industry standard SDLC practices.

Cons

Multiple people, including senior leadership, referenced the stock price as an indicator of employment. When the stock price falls, people get laid off and vice versa. Sure macro events absolutely impact businesses, but employees and business models should not be short term resources. If a business model is sound it will weather through ups and downs. Layoffs will happen sure, but telling an impacted employee "I'm sure you've seen the stock price" in an exit interview is, IMO, indicative of poor hiring and planning
