Growing trading firm with incredible culture

Pros

The people at this company, from the CEO down the org chart, work hard to actually live Geneva's stated values. People regularly comment on the great culture and that they feel supported by management. Geneva hires intelligent people who work together well and helps them grow. This is a unique firm built on trust and collaboration. The CEO has his MBA from the University of Chicago and encourages and appreciates good management practices. The firm is in an exciting time in its history as it expands and diversifies its trading strategies. It's an exciting time to join.

Cons

As Geneva is a trading firm in growth mode, the pace of change can be quicker than some other firms, but changes to priorities and the way people work are well understood and taken into account.

Great for experienced traders

Pros

Recently joined Geneva in Dublin with previous trading experience. Some insights that may be useful to experienced traders deciding if Geneva is suitable for them: - Significant investment in technology. This company has broken out of the mould of traditional trading houses and invests heavily in their own technology. System speeds will be comparable to any top trading house in UK & Ireland but technology innovations will be surprising and offer a real competitive advantage. - Large range of quantitative resources. For traditional point & click traders, the access to quant resources will be eye opening. - Collaboration. There are a lot of opportunities to collaborate and learn from traders with different styles and approaches. Don’t expect anyone to hold your hand but most traders are very open and more than willing to discuss ideas, methods, and general views on markets. Collaboration is encouraged by management and stronger team atmosphere fostered with socials/events/discussion groups. - Tech, risk and general trader support all top notch.

Cons

Only real negative is that the office is a bit dated and spread over three floors. I believe a move is in the pipeline though.

Pros

-My manager was brilliant, helped me develop great logic, and we were in sync -I was excited by the strategies I built -Cool office -Use of KDB/Q

Cons

-My co-workers were not mathematically sophisticated. 4 traders coded. -Behind in technology, as far as I can tell. I could have been sheltered, not sure. -Underpaid relative to everything I've seen, in both base and bonus. -Didn't feel challenged, and <50% of relevant skill set was utilized. -Technically impaired IT/operations department. -Every member of "senior management" except my manager was lacking understanding of the trades being done. I am not sure how much this matters, but it was a red flag. -Someone leaving/laid off every month I was there. Perhaps this was a statistical anomaly.

Pros

Geneva offers many different trading platforms for experienced traders to plug into. There is no middle management and deal structures are very transparent.

Cons

None that I can think of.

Below average work place

Pros

None, nothing, nada, zero,

Cons

Management doesn't manage. When you have a concern and voice it, they hear it but don't do anything about it. They favor the "elite" employees and think no one sees it, but everyone does. No room for growth.
