Pros

Great pay, benefits, open kitchen on multiple floors, friendly atmosphere, safe place to work, opportunity to create something new or start a project with a team, game room a plus, amenities were great!

Cons

Leaving a department is incredibly hard, movement in the company is difficult, department leads play favorite, people 'work' the system to cheat and meet goals, lots of gossip. Can feel very isolating, and work life balance in some departments is unfair. You have to pay to park at your own job daily.

I'm glad you found so many things to love about your time at Zillow. I agree our benefits and physical workspace is top notch. I also agree that sometimes movement within the company can be challenging, because we have so many talented and experience employees, the competition is tight. Which is why we launch our Employee Career Owner's Manual project last year, and gave our team members tons of great info on how to progress, and the different kinds of progression one has over the course of the career. To your comment about "cheating", I take that very seriously and if you have examples or more detail on that, please reach out to me directly jrg@zillowgroup.com. -JR Gast, VP Client Experience.

Pros

Generally the people I work with are great. They are supportive, creative, and work well as a team. Work-life balance is good, although some teams have more on-call than others.

Cons

- Senior leadership has determined that inflation need not be a factor when calculating raises. - Also, we're having record profitability! But also money is very tight and we all need to tighten our belts. - Our stock is down 50% this year, but you all need to suck it up, even though stock is a huge part of pay. - We don't care that you are getting a 30% effective pay cut this year. - Performance ratings are calculated on vibes before reviews are actually written. - We've started outsourcing heavily to Mexico and India. - "We need to raise the bar" ("Please work harder for the same pay") - Health benefits have eroded for several years. - Other benefits have never been adjusted for inflation. - AI is becoming like a cult. We've actually been told that the dream is to never open a code editor again, despite the technology not being remotely ready for that (and with no proof that it is less expensive or saves time).
