Great for contributors; not so much for managers and up - Support Manager SAP Employee Review

Pros

Benefits are great and I think that for individual contributors this is a great place to work for. In particular, work-life balance is great, and pressure is reasonable. SAP is also involved in many technical areas with some really exciting projects and new product lines.

Cons

The company is extremely hierarchical and permeated by a lack of accountability. I have seen completely incompetent managers (and higher) getting promoted or, at the very least, tolerated for years. Instead of feedback loops, there are constant political games. Decision making is hampered by tight control of information flows by leaders. The company is also very wasteful and inefficient, throwing huge amounts of money at projects that are then not properly managed and fail, causing internal frustration and customer dissatisfaction. There are many problems that could be solved if management paid attention and cared. Instead, the labyrinthine management structure and constant reorgs make a lot of things fall through the cracks. At the end of the day, customers suffer. Finally, once in management, there are no real means to advance one's career. Nearly all important positions are filled without any competition.

Thank you so much for your review. It's unfortunate to hear of the issues with management. The mission of our leaders is to drive innovation, but we want our employees to enjoy what they do.

Pros

I really liked my role at SAP. After being a cloud Customer Success Manager supporting strategic clients for several years, I moved into a group doing digital customer outreach including producing newsletters, release enablement, webcasts, documentation, event registrations, etc. Salary and bonuses were good, no complaints there.

Cons

No real cons for the job that I was in, except that our group was eliminated by the corporate restructuring and reduction in workforce in North America in 2025. I would have loved to stay but unfortunately we probably showed up on a restructuring spreadsheet somewhere and it was determined that our services were no longer needed. We off-boarded most of our work to other existing employees (who already had full time jobs), which felt unfair to them, but that is how it shook out.
