Pros

Remote work, average work benefits

Cons

A lot of older people work here. Technical leaders over 50 exhibit boomer habits, such as micromanagement. It’s common to receive a message first thing in the morning asking how you’re doing, and another in the afternoon checking on your progress. The environment is insincere, where anyone can tell a joke that nobody finds funny, yet everyone laughs falsely out of fear of being fired. Intimidating behavior from product leads, tech leads, and architecture leaders is prevalent. The employees have been with the company for years, treating each other with seriousness and coldness. There are zero team-building habits and no camaraderie; everyone wants to do their job and have nothing more to do with the place. Anyone who helps you does so out of fear of being fired. They claim to use Kanban for task planning and say they don't believe in Scrum, but if you take too long to complete tasks, they treat you as if you’re not working and see you as an enemy. They estimate how long it should take you to complete tasks, they estimate for you, and if you don’t meet their planned times, they speak to you in an intimidating manner. They have terrible problem management, and your stay there depends on pleasing the octogenarian tech leads, who will get you fired at the first sign of displeasure. The architecture is outdated and monolithic, and management is forced to write tests as well. The product lead sends you messages through Microsoft Teams to check the status of your laptop activity, monitoring whether it’s green and you’re working or if you’re absent or inactive. They check the commits you've made and at what time to see if you work all the hours they require. Working here made me feel like an enemy. Feedback sessions were more like “Let’s see how you work this week” and not much more. They are more about threatening you than listening to you. There is incompetence in conflict resolution. In this company, I didn’t find leaders but bosses, and I didn’t find coworkers but people working out of fear of being fired. Developers are expected to gradually take on and learn management tasks so they "know a bit of everything." Saying no is not optional and its considered like you don't want to work.

Pros

Some truly wonderful people work here. Pay was competitive and benefits were good.

Cons

While some wonderful people work here, it was the most toxic work environment I've been in. Experience can depend on who you work with so just beware...
