      Flight Attendant Interview

      New York, NY
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at United Airlines (New York, NY) in Oct 2015

      Interview

      - Applied October, 5th 2015 - Offered HireVue Interview October, 6th 2015 - Completed interview on the 10th, around 12AM I prepped like I was studying for an exam. Took 3 days to prepare because I did not feel confident about my knowledge of the airline. I read their About US page, Wiki entry, and other online sources. What helped me the most were the questions I found on here. I created my own "study guide" and typed up my answers to the common questions I found here. I dressed professionally (at least from the waist up) I timed myself, 3 minutes, answering each question which is what the video interview scenario is like (don't forget to continually make eye contact with the webcam). I practiced the 3 practice questions they give you before the interview as many times as it took, to make me feel more confident during the real thing. During my interview I tripped up a little, pausing and maybe repeating myself but those are all signs of nervousness. Except, during the last question (Is there anything else you want us to know about you?) it may have sounded like I was begging for the position when I hesitated and said "I really want this...). To me I was trying to show genuine interest but, admittedly, that could have been expressed in other words. I suppose I'll know better in 1 year. I heard back from them 9 days later saying that other candidates were selected for further consideration. Although I was bitter, and waking up in the morning to this e-mail was not the best feeling, I have to admit that their rejection was much better and more professional than Delta (who pretty much made it sound like they never wanted me to apply again). My advice to you is to utilize the questions on this website, because they are extremely helpful. Also Google what the HireVue is so that you can know what to expect/what the interview interface will look like. It is nerve-racking to know that recruiters are sitting and talking about your video and whether or not they want you but that is the reality. if this is something that you really want, then 1 year (6 months for some airlines) or a week will make no difference. I am not giving up and neither should you. Best of luck on your journey! P.S. Even if you send them a polite e-mail, airlines will never reveal the details of their interviewee selections. You will just have to figure out on your own why you were not selected. For me perhaps it was: - What I said above about sounding desperate - The time I submitted my video (12AM, 4 out of the 5 days you are given to submit it) - My responses did not have enough substance - Maybe I was not well-groomed enough (to them) - I did not send them a 'Thank You Letter' after the interview - My resume and cover letter were not up to par - I wasn't pretty enough - I have a slight accent - Anything since humans are subjective
