I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at United Airlines (San Francisco, CA) in Mar 2015
Interview
The interview process was pretty laid back and short. When I first got there I was in a room with the rest of the candidates, that is when we were socializing and introducing ourselves. Promptly at 8:30am the recruiters had us check in, this is when we gave our resumes and confirmed our return flights home. After that one recruiter did a short presentation covering the basics of the flight attendant job, including pay. He also said that everyone would be receiving an email with a decision. After that, he began answering questions, as he was doing that the recruiters where coming in to get candidates for 1:1 interviews. During the interview he asked questions, did a scenario, and had me read an announcement. It only lasted about 20 mins and then he told me that he would pass his notes on to his supervisor and that I would get an email in a week. He walked me to the elevator and explained to me how to get back to the terminal. On the bus back to the terminal I was with two girls and a guy. here's where it gets interesting, terminal 3 at SFO is United's terminal and where we were instructed to go. On the bus as we were all talking the guy says " this is my stop, I'm getting off here, sorry", it was the international terminal. I thought it was weird but I didn't read too much into it. A bunch of us hung out in the terminal due to the fact that most of our flights weren't leaving for several hours. While there we started hearing who got hired. I was confused because I thought that decisions were coming in emails. A flight attendant there said here's how you can tell if they've been hired, on the bus if they got off at the international terminal because that's where you have to take your drug test. That's when it made sense to me as to why he was getting off there. At that moment I knew that I wasn't getting the job. Sure enough three days later I got an email saying I wouldn't be considered further. Overall it was a great experience and now I will know what to expect next time. Good luck ! & they DO hire on the spot and others do get emails. The girl that I know of that got hired said she only had 1 interview and was immediately invited to training. I guess it depends on who your recruiter is, mine was very nice but I got the impression that he didn't care too much, seeing as he started the interview off with " I was talking to someone having a cup of coffee and totally forgot that I had an interview"

Interview
First, you have to apply it and submit your application on United website when the flight attendant opposition is opening.
Then, you will get an assessment, kinda like a personality test.
Second, you will be invited to a virtual interview. basically, you need to answer 8 questions and record your answers. You have 3 attempts to record it.
Completed the assessment and attended the optional Q&A teams meeting , I am now awaiting the virtual face to face . It’s been almost a month of waiting however in the Q&A meeting they mentioned that it can take some time possibly towards the end of summer .
It started with the Assessment, followed by 8 video questions, and then the video interview. The in person final interview I am waiting for. They said I would know in 2-5 business days.
