      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at United Airlines (Houston, TX)

      Interview

I applied in mid November and got an email by the end of the month inviting me to the interview process in Houston. I picked the week of jan 7-13th and stayed the night at a Marriott. That day I went down and the hotel's shuttle took me over to the training center. I got there at 8:30am and it was already pretty full. They have you put your bags off to the side. Then they started taking resumes and letters of recommendations (I didn't bring a letter of recommendation) in the back of the room (this was all before 9am) we waited in line to give our resumes, I gave mine and then confirmed my return home with the recruiter then walked down the table to get my name tag. They gave us something to read about United flight attendants then we went and sat back down again. As people started coming in a little later they went up right away to give their resumes. Then at 9am we watched a video clip. I can't even tell you how long it was, it seemed short but I can't remember because I was so nervous and barely paying attention as I watched it. At this point I thought there was no way I was going to get it. Everyone there was way older than me (I just turned 21) and everyone seemed friendly and looked the job. And before I go anywhere else I must say: WEAR A SUIT JACKET. It blew my mind that there was still people who dressed casual, don't people research online? One girl next to me said she read it online how she was supposed to dress up but said she wanted to go like herself to show the interviewers what she's like. Um no. I won't even expand on that. Just wear a suit jacket. I will also add that you should wear your hair up (unless you have shoulder length hair) No one that got the job had their hair down, I don't know if it's really something they are looking for, but I would just do it to be safe. I personally think I look better with my hair down but a United FA on my plane before this interview told me to wear it up in a bun, and good thing I listened! So anyways, they pulled everyone in, I had a super nice guy the first round and he seemed to like everything I said. It's sort of nerve racking because they are writing down basically everything you say so they aren't making eye contact. We sit down, and BAM "Why do you want to be a flight attendant?" Understand what being on reserve is, why you are okay with it, and have stories of you helping customers from previous customer service jobs. He had me read a flight attendant announcement. I felt fairly confident I was going to make it but then he was like "Okay I have no further questions....but I do want you to read this piece of paper to yourself" and it was telling me to come back at a later time. I would say only 20 people made it to the next round. Everyone could speak another language (I speak English...and um, English...) So i was like, "Well! It was nice to at least make it to the next round!" You would think in a competitive environment everyone would be eyeing each other up and down, but everyone was SO nice! So many laughs and it really helped calming all of us down. Second interview I thought was going to be really hard because of what I read on here, it was the easiest for me. She did ask some things I wasn't prepared for like "Tell me a time there was a customer who was doing something that was a safety hazard and how did you fix it?" So good thing I could think on my feet. But she was so smiley during it. But again, I didn't know if I made it because she acted like she was finishing up all her questions but then was like ...."I'd like to take you to the next round, is that okay?" I was like "YES!" I heard how some recruiters actually said "Okay I'll take you to where you need to wait for the bus" and then stopped them and took them into the small room when they passed it. Probably 7 girls were in there when I got there, each one got called out then it was my turn (an hour and a half later) The vibe I got when I walked into the panel of 3 judges was that they already approved of me. One guy was like "So I was telling them, I love people who work where you work, you already deal with crazy people and people who travel" and I was just like.."Yes..." then the next guy asked me questions I wasn't prepared for again, like "If you could go back a chapter in your life and change it, would you and why?" We were all laughing and I think what helped me was I was I was so calm and was making eye contact with each one and smiling. I say it seemed like they decided they approved right away because they all looked at each other towards the end and nodded and then he invited me to training! Probably the most stressful day of my life. So basically, look the part (hair up, nails, watch, SUIT) smile, make sure you have good customer service stories that show you are a leader, and you should be fine! I still don't know how I got it out of all those people, especially the ones who could speak so many different languages! But yay!

      Interview

the face to face live video interview with a HR personnel. I collected all possible questions from reddit to glassdoor and formulate my answers and thought they're going to ask the same questions but they didn't. The HR kind of tell that I have a ready made answers so she stirred the interview differently so my answer will be organic. Thankfully I passed this 30 minute interview. The interviewer did not look interested because she is multi-tasking but best believe she is listening to your answers.

      Interview

I’m heading to the F2F interview in TX. Every step so far has not been difficult for me. I also have no prior knowledge in being a FA. The hardest part so far is probably just the nerves and anxiety. Just prep well, do some research, have some basic questions and answer prepared so that even if they ask a different question you can possibly use one of the scenarios of another question and tailor it to the new one.
