I applied online. I interviewed at Schneider Electric (West Kingston, RI)
Interview
Let me start by saying that my phone interview was very normal and very professional. My in-person interview was easily one of the most unprofessional interviews I’ve ever experienced. Within the first 5-10 minutes of the interview he explained how there were at least 2 internal candidates and only one position to fill within the department. He seemed like he had other stuff going on and realized he had to get my interview out of the way, or that they’d already made a decision before I’d arrived. Why waste each other’s time?
He explained how he wanted to just have a casual conversation rather than an interview. So casual in fact, that he actually pulled out his phone and called his dad in the middle of things to get the name of a band he couldn’t remember when our conversation had shifted to music. This was a clear example of what a waste of time this was going to be. I really should’ve left at that point, but instead I got to experience the full awesomeness of this guy.
He actually told me I seemed cool as (insert profanity I wasn’t able to print in this review here), and that he thought I’d be great for the company but that I just didn’t seem right for the position. It was such a ridiculous thing to say as someone representing the company in an interview. At one point he also made a pretty racist comment. I’d be happy to explain further if I was ever contacted you the company. It was just a strange interaction. I felt like I was dealing with a really disingenuous frat boy, very see through personality. The whole experience just makes for a funny story now.
He briefly introduced me to the department. Not exactly sure why he bothered, but they all seemed nice and normal. I think he wants people fresh out of college.
I didn’t receive an offer, nor did I expect one. But I couldn’t imagine having to call this guy my boss.
