      Dog Trainer Interview

      23 Apr 2016
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Declined offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at PetSmart

      Interview

I came in and waited for 15 minutes because the manager was busy. The interview was done in the training area. Since I've been a Pro dog trainer for many years before trying petsmart, I was very confident and was able to play the conversation towards my strengths. In the end, I declined the offer for these reasons: Exclusive contract - this means you cannot do training outside the company. No private clients. Part time - you will only be working 3-4 hours a day for $10 per hour. I saw reviews here of people working for 3 years and still not offered a full time job. Cold Selling - You will be cold selling to clients your training service. The other dog training company I work for does all the MARKETING for me so that I only have to focus on TRAINING. PETSMART won't do it for you....

      Interview questions [2]

      Question 1

Petsmart does not promote PRONG and SHOCK COLLARS, are you comfortable with Reward-based training? (weird... Cause they sell prong collars)

      Question 2

How do you sell your training service to a client?

Super quick and easy. I really enjoyed talking with them, the questions made sense for the job. Once I started talking it was natural. The position was perfect for me.

      Accepted offer

      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at PetSmart (Arden, NC) in Dec 2019

      Interview

Small office space with fairly standard questions. The pros and cons of /a/ job were presented to me. These turned out to not be the pros and cons of the job I was actually hired to do. I would be very specific about what exactly it is you will be spending your time doing, and make sure you know who you will be working for. It’s very much so a big corporation, but the experience seems to come down to your individual store leader. I had to interview with someone else, then wait two weeks, then re-apply, then get hired incorrectly, then never be able to get in touch with someone, then a month and a half later I started.

      Interview

An interview was set up for me to go in and then someone called me the day before saying that there is no position and they didn't know that I had an interview set up.... Don't put it online if it's not a position. They wasted my time. Save your time and apply somewhere else..the position you are applying for online might not actually exist or have an opening.
