- Where would you like to be in 10 years?

Anonymous Interview Candidate in Washington, DC
The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at FOX News (Washington, DC)
I was contacted by the H.R. to schedule an initial phone interview. After I waited 5 minutes after our scheduled time, I called the H.R. but was told they were running late. I was even asked “Didn’t you receive the email? ” I hang up the phone and minutes later got an email saying they were running late. A video interview with the bureau’s supervisor happened later. Got a feeling that they were unimpressed by me at all which is understandable. I didn’t get the job - I think the outlet promoted from within so good for them! Thumbs up! I’m also glad that I somehow dodged a bullet.
- Pitch a story idea for me

I recently had the misfortune of being a part of the Fox News Media interview process. I was contacted through email and phone call for screening interview. The interviewer during this round seemed nice. They moved me onto the next round and said to be okay with admitting to the second round interviewer if you don't know a certain skill or software, since it is a beginner level role. I decided to follow what they said, and trusted the process. Yea. Bad idea. The next round interviewers asked technical questions and had a surprise excel assignment through ZOOM. They claimed the assessment was to see what level of knowledge I had. I was asked some behavior questions as well. The second round interview ran a little over an hour long split between two interviewers. About 10 minutes before the interview, a colleague of the interviewer called to make sure I'm going to show up to the interview. I'm not sure why they thought I was going to flake. Is there a bad trait about the role i'm not understanding? Have candidates been backing out of the interview? I think the worst part of the interview is that one of the hiring managers had their CHILD there crying and running around during most of the interview. Normally, I would be okay with this - but it doesn't make for a good impression. I felt like I wasn't receiving the interviewer's full, undivided attention. I was rudely muted 2-3 times during the video call. This is not a way to ensure a fair, non-discriminatory hiring process. It's unfortunate - a lot of seemingly great roles are being posted by this company, that look good on paper, but the unfair interview process is bringing their hiring team down. Good luck to them and good luck to candidates applying.
- It looks like they focus on: Candidate's technical abilities as it relates to the role Collaboration and leadership Problem solving and initiative related behavior questions Tell me about yourself? Describe a time you had to deal with multiple tasks? Basic journal entry questions, verbally spoken to the candidate. SURPRISE EXCEL ASSESSMENT DURING THE SECOND ZOOM INTERVIEW.

First is a phone call or two with HR, the person I was in communication with was lovely and helpful. Made it through and was told there would be a "Current Events" test followed by writing prompts to demonstrate your skills. That process was over zoom with the camera on and your screen shared, so there is no cheating. They sent me a guide a day prior that went over details. However, I spent hours going through current events to prepare only to find the "Current Events" questions, of which there were many, were not current events but geographical and political figure trivia with some odd questions thrown like "Who won grammy for best whatever last year?" I felt there was not enough time for the questions and the six writing prompts. I left one prompt and multiple questions empty as I was blindsided by the "Current Events-turned trivia. But I still got through the next two rounds and had a very pleasant zoom with my would-be superior. I got great feedback and it truly sounded like things would turn into an offer but three weeks went by and I got a kind rejection from HR. I was shocked but I think it was probably due to them wanting someone already in the area.
- Who won a grammy for artist of the year last year? Name all Supreme Court Justices. Name all departments under the executive branch. They will ask to name out every domestic and international abbreviated group like NSA and NATO. Who would you pick to win journalist of the year and why? (I chose a big name at Fox b/c my real answer was a competitor, don't do either. Choose someone undoubtedly neutral) Brush up on North American geography, especially American rivers and the states they touch.
