What is the hiring process like at Schroders?

      Implosion imminent …

      Pros

Unique office setting. Which is about all it has going for it.

      Cons

Shame you can’t give lower than 1 star. Simply avoid at all costs. I joined with high hopes and stagnated here, becoming a mere number that was eventually tossed aside for cost cutting, which has been favoured over quality and is showing in their products. Low motivation, high workload, terrible communications and a HR department that’s about as useful as a 1940s European border. The company is being run into the ground by ignoring what made it so successful, its people. The senior leadership team are running the company on fear and middle management are stuck in an unforgiving loop - they know changes need to happen but don’t have the power to do anything. You’ll be expected to work miracles for people that won’t follow process and you get little to no protection from managers who just allow others to walk in the back door so to speak. I’ve seen some incredibly skilled people fall here and careers have just halted. They offer near zero development opportunities, internal roles “vanish” or are suddenly withdrawn and they removed half the useful software as part of the cost cuts. They want you to do 3/4 different roles but pay under market rates for the 1 you are hired for. Don’t expect to see a bonus for the hard work either. Think “pizza party” type rewards. I’ve developed more in 3 weeks since finally jumping ship than in 4 years here. Don’t fall for the big name.

Increased Competition Due to Budget Constraints

      Senior analyst developer

      Business outlook

      Pros

Talented and knowledgeable colleagues Opportunities to work on high-impact projects Exposure to complex financial products and global markets

      Cons

Recently resources and headcount more limited than before. This has led to a noticeably more competitive environment as teams try to accomplish more with less. Heavy workload and high expectations; in many cases, employees are expected to take on additional responsibilities due to hiring freezes and cost-saving measures. Pressure can be intense, especially in departments directly affected by budget constraints.

Used to be a great place to work

      Pros

People are generally nice, competent and collaborative across the organisation. Work-life balance is decent. Many people have been here 10 years or more.

      Cons

Increasingly paralysed by internal politics and micromanagement, morale is low and comp has been bad for 4 out of the last 5 years. Talent is heading for the exits and leadership doesn’t have any new ideas.

      Rotten to the core

      Pros

The best thing about Schroders is the people. Unfortunately it is these people that are undervalued and treated appallingly as a result of shocking business decisions from the top.

      Cons

I have never seen a company more mismanaged than Schroders. A matter of months ago, Horsham was reassured that the hub is the place to be. It is 'safe' from the changes coming. Months later, look at it now. Cutting 40%, most of which to India. This 'change' in strategy came as a huge shock, no doubt, down to the horrendous communication from the sly senior management team. Placing huge number of staff under 'at risk of redundancy in April-June 2026, is incredibly sly. They are banking on valuable staff leaving with this looming threat of redundancy over their heads. When a company thinks of every colleague as a number, as opposed to a valuable resource, they are in deep trouble. Certain teams in Horsham are being completed gutted and outsourced to UST. Obviously lots of people are leaving now and realise its time to get off the sinking ship. The genius that came up with this plan clearly hasn't thought through or simply doesn't care about the transition to UST. They are using contractors to implement a plan. Contractors that are absolutely robbing a living and have worked at Schroders for years and years and years. Perhaps this would've been a great place to start this swinging cost cutting exercise. So people are at risk of redundancy, hitting around April to June 2026. The process of hiring staff in India is only going ahead now... they are not expected to start until February. Giving a very short amount of time to hand over this work. Further evidence of the incompetence of this company is HR. Inconsistently applying their policies highlights at best incompetence and at worst discrimination. Training costs were applied to me and taken off m final salary. Ordinarily, that is fine, it is in the contract. When you know they don't apply it to everyone in the same situation, it becomes completely unacceptable. When I joined this company, it had a fantastic reputation and was a very enjoyable place to work. The Horsham campus is great. The story now is very different. Senior management are incompetent, dysfunctional and delusional. You do not want to work here. It is a sinking ship and I would be very surprised if further 'efficiencies' are not sought in 2026.
