She was scuba diving when she saw the harmful effects of plastics on marine life first-hand. He was leading 300 OCBC volunteers on a coastal clean-up and they collected 1,500 kg of waste in 3 hours. Nakul and Amelia are so passionate about reducing single-use plastics that they are now affectionately known to their colleagues as the “Plastics Police”. In 2017 they introduced use of biodegradable cups amongst all their colleagues in the consumer banking division. Today, customers and visitors at all our branches are served water using these biodegradable cups, saving approximately 5,000 kg of plastic waste each year. “We’re glad we have supportive colleagues who support our call to protect the environment. Persistence over the years makes a difference,” shared Amelia. #OCBCCares #PeopleOfOCBC
Congratulations to Eunice Ng and Phua Shiling from our Compass One branch, who were awarded in December last year with a Certificate of Appreciation by the Singapore Police Force for successfully preventing a scam. Eunice, a Customer Service Manager, was alerted to a customer's unusual behaviour by Shiling, a bank teller. The customer had been depositing large amounts into her account and remitting funds to a Thai bank account belonging to someone she claimed was her cousin. On the customer’s fourth visit to the branch to make a funds transfer to the same Thai bank account, Eunice and Shiling finally convinced the customer to make a police report. Eunice personally accompanied the customer to a nearby police station and even waited with the customer until her report was filed. Unfortunately, by this time, a total of $4,500 had already been remitted $in three previous transactions to the scammer. Thanks to Eunice and Shiling’s vigilance, the customer was prevented from losing more than $10,000 to this love scam. Thanks for being Simply Spot On in placing the interest and well-being

Poor oral health among seniors can be linked to factors like fear of pain. Vulnerable seniors with mobility and affordability issues tend to put off visits to the dentist if they can. To allay their anxieties, our staff volunteers arranged for transport from the seniors’ homes to the clinic and stayed with them throughout the visit. After treatment, there were smiles all around as the seniors could chew and better enjoy eating their food – an everyday action that we may take for granted.
