At Elsevier, today, we join the World to celebrate World AIDS Day. The theme of this year’s World AIDS Day is "#Equalize." The “Equalize” slogan is a call to action. It is a prompt for all of us to work on the proven practical actions needed to address inequalities and help end AIDS. Let us show love, compassion, and continuous support for those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS. Let us tackle HIV stigma and discrimination. We must equalize for everyone to reduce HIV risks. We must equalize marginalized people and all living with HIV. Today, we also remember departed souls who lost their lives due to the complications of HIV and those caring for people battling AIDS. We also celebrate the diverse group of people who are allies to those battling HIV/AIDS, standing shoulder to shoulder with them and fighting for their rights. Together, let’s work on building a future free from AIDS. More information: https://www.worldaidsday.org/

Employees with disabilities talk about how the support they receive at Elsevier enables them to perform their best and be “disability confident.” Elsevier works to ensure that people with disabilities and caregivers have the support and resources they need to thrive in their careers and contribute to Elsevier’s success. Elsevier is committed to creating an inclusive and equitable work environment that respects each individual and allows employees to fully contribute. We strongly believe that diversity of people and ideas makes our company stronger and creates value for our customers. Elsevier hires diverse candidates from all over the world and aims to be an employer of choice for individuals from all backgrounds, including those with disabilities. Many of our employees have disabilities or care for someone who does. Here are a few of their stories ... “Elsevier gave me the opportunity to get back to a healthy place.”
Elsevier named a “Best Place to Work for Working Daughters” (and sons). This award recognizes companies who support caregivers “beyond offering flex time and EAP”; here’s what our people are saying. When her mom fell and broke her hip last year, Susan Ikeda wasn’t ready. “I had been looking into finding her at-home care just the day before,” recalled Susan, a Senior Editorial Project Manager based in Elsevier’s San Diego, California, office: "I scrambled — the hospital was next, then skilled nursing, and then ... I wasn’t sure. I had so much to do..." Fortunately, Susan’s fears about work were soon allayed. "My manager supported me in ways I didn’t think possible — flextime, empowering me to cancel meetings, and helping me find support in Elsevier. I was so preoccupied with my mom that I didn’t think about checking all that Elsevier has to offer. " Elsevier offers a wide range of support for employees who are caregivers, from formal programs like Modern Family Leave to webinars for health and wellbeing.
