Pros

I had a great experience and improved my skills a lot. I also had a lot of freedom in deciding what to do and suggesting ideas. The people in my office were the best part of the workplace for me. The salary was decent, too.

Cons

In recent years, though, it became too political. The current CEO doesn’t seem to have a positive view of offices in Europe, as he suggests that Europeans are not ready to sacrifice a sensible work-life balance. As a result, offices there are being steadily cut, and more and more engineering responsibilities are being moved to the Americas. The senior leadership in my org (Grow) also tends to pick favorites, and if you are not in that category, you are basically screwed. In addition, the leadership kept carrying out reorganizations, each time promising that the new setup would “set us up for success.” Because of that, it was very difficult to plan beyond a six-month horizon. Literally, there were one or two reorgs every year.

Pros

In some offices the culture and community is still decent and friendly. If you are desperate for ANY job, then this is enough.

Cons

In Ads in particular, all management and "decision making" now takes place in SF (copy/paste from Applovin), meaning that there are virtually no managers elsewhere, and everyone else is considered "unskilled labor" (literally the words of top managers). A LOT of public and internal overpromises about deliverables in projects that are not actually performing or even exist. Zero-sum mentality. Most chat channels are private and inaccessible to anyone not personally invited by certain managers. Think compartmentalization and "need to know" policies. Average overall compensation, considering stock as a part. It may be actually OK in smaller countries (compared to the local market) and considering stock refreshers, but you are still heavily dependent on stock performance. Expect 0-5% increase at best without promo. You can EASILY get 0% even if you are the smartest guy in the room. Delusional, out of touch senior management with no competence. It is a SF company, so everyone is a VP or Principal without any decent experience or unique knowledge. Super strange and unstable org chart. They "flatten" or restructure it every few months, managers change back and forth, people moved from project to project and backwards. No product vision for the last few years. Instead, they even killed all promising remaining initiatives (to "refocus"). Year after year, they continue to promise more data and ML will solve all the problems. Layoffs every few months to compensate for their own failures and lack of vision. Recently, they even decided to tear apart the entire office just because one executive received a fierce feedback of his plans. Since then, every time they open their mouth, you always hear: "You didn't believe in me, and now you shall see my success." Disgusting and inhumane. Friends promote friends and loyal people. Forget about working smarter and getting promoted for accomplishments. For reference, there are Staff engineers who struggle with git and have never had a github account. Super overpaid CEO for deliveries. 50M???

Pros

The people working in this company. I'd say 90% of them are amazing to work with and super passionate.

Cons

Biggest cons in the last few years were related to poor executive leadership. But that started changing with the new CEO (who let go pretty much all of the execs in his first year).

Pros

The CEO has a strong product first mindset, with a genuine belief that improving the product will improve the company overall. Engineering teams seem aligned and motivated toward this shared goal.

Cons

In this transition phase, sales teams have fewer new offerings to present to clients, yet annual targets continue to rise. This creates a widening gap between available resources and expectations.

Pros

The company is well known and has a wide customer base still, still consider that it may have potential to get back on track.

Cons

Within about past 4-5 years a sequence of poor decisions were made, some were just mistakes in market assessment, some in chase for money to increase business runway within downtrending economic context, and some straight away to for personal benefits of certain leaders. This resulted in scandals, loss of reputation, huge discount in stock price, high talent attrition, annual reduction in forces followed by reorganization, and welcoming of new management bringing Amazon culture and work style which destroyed employee wellbeing. Change of CEO while improved overall situation, but not significantly. In my opinion, the best decisions were made by new CEO were to revert poor decisions of the previous management. Otherwise I can't say that so much needed improvements in vision, culture, employee well-being had taken steps towards what it user to be back in 2019.
