Southern Vacation Rentals and Real Estate is comprised of owners and a management team that are all related in some way. The "family" dynamic creates an environment where people are hired who are not qualified and promoted simply because of their last name. No one is rewarded on merit alone - you have to marry into it.
The Chief Sales and Marketing Director is a perfect example of the nepotism and the Peter Principle, as she is obviously not qualified for any marketing position, does not understand basic technology, and does not have a desirable personality, yet has risen to one of the top positions in the company. As a member of the marketing team, you can expect to have your job threatened, be berated, disrespected and undervalued daily. You will be expected to come in early and leave late. You will work at you desk every day, in a large open room with the 2 or 3 other members of your team (the turnover is so high and people quit so much there is rarely a full team), while the Chief of Sales and Marketing watches you from a large window she had cut out of the wall of her office, specifically so she can watch the marketing teams every move like a manager of a factory. It is nearly impossible to be creative or innovative in this type of environment, but even if you do manage to offer a new idea (it IS marketing after all) it will quickly be met with criticism or the Chief Sales and Marketing Manager will simply yell out "NO" in the middle of a meeting in front of your colleagues, making sure to embarrass you so you will never speak up again and also ensure Southern's online presence and relevance in the community remains stagnant.
