Pros

Nice office building to work in

Cons

I was dragged through a painfully slow decision making process where they took me through many rounds of jumping through hoops to finally hear back from them several weeks later that they did want to hire me. I was never told which team I would be joining and on my first day I found out that my manager was actually based in bulgaria. I had no onboarding procedure setup and they assured me that I can relax and things will develop naturally lulling me into a false sense of security. I then spent many weeks discovering that the position I had applied for was a goal for a member of the team I worked alongside who was hell bent on closing this as a promotion for himself. I spent weeks having to compete with someone who had worked there for 2 years whilst desperately reaching out to my non existent manager based overseas. The entire office culture was the typical English passive aggressive too that didnt help and sure enough after many crap months of not really feeling like I had any help or direct management engagement I was told my co-worker who wanted my position did in fact get the position and the team I was supposed to be leading would be split into 2 teams one for him and one for me. A week later I was told by my overseas manager who I hadn't talked to for weeks that it wasn't working out and I didn't pass probation. Still baffles me today that a reputable company can be so disorganised with their tech teams

Pros

Work from home is at a good ratio - 3 home - 2 office. Interesting projects, some good people to work or socialise with. When they started in Sofia back in 2018-2019, they got really good professionals to do the job. Built good teams, the office is also great as a location and premises.

Cons

I am talking about the Bulgaria office. Too much corporate BS, too much politics (= backstabbing and intrigues), too many internal connections (people of people of people who know people) and lots of gossip. If you ask for more money, like after 3-4 years with them, they deny and then make your life miserable, so you leave by yourself. Within 2 years, they got rid of almost all senior people, as they cost money, and FT makes budget cuts to shine for their investors - the Japanese Nikkei. If this is OK with people, no. If this is OK with the project's delivery, definitely not. The last 3-4 years FT in Sofia became the most toxic place you can fall into. Either you are with the management and lick their butts or you are gone in no time. That inclussions sh!t they promote is becoming too much for people who just want to do their work. FT stopped paying good money like 3 years ago, no increase, no promotions, no training, no development, and even no team building. They just use you and abuse you. There are so many emotionally damaged people out of FT that it's insane - no one wants to work for them. Pity the Corp BS spoiled a good company and chased good people out.

Pros

Hybrid work Good logo on CV Interesting clients

Cons

Heavy on the office politics Favouritism helps a lot Connections are more important than your work itself Little to no room for growth Too much work for a low salary This industry is failing and the FT is a good representation of that

Pros

- The office itself is modern, comfortable, and located in a fantastic central London location. - The vast majority of colleagues are friendly, approachable, and willing to help. - On the surface, there is a genuine commitment to diversity and inclusion initiatives. - The FT brand and its mission attract bright and talented individuals, making for intellectually stimulating work conversations.

Cons

- Onboarding was disorganised and inconsistent, virtually non-existent in my case. This made it difficult to understand company processes and who was responsible for what. - Teams often operate in silos with little cross-functional visibility, which creates confusion, duplication of work, and poor communication, especially during times of internal change. - My experience with line management was deeply negative. My line manager displayed bullying behaviour and had a close relationship with the HR business partner, which made it difficult to raise concerns or seek support. - There was a clear lack of structured support in my department, especially for new joiners. This left me feeling isolated and unsupported in my first few months.
