Pros

- might just be my department but there's not any pros...

Cons

- Small layoff takes place every few months. I have only been here for 7 months but there were already two round of layoffs. About 2 - 3 roles eliminated from each team. - Leadership team wants things to happen overnight but the reality is that things are moving very slowly because the lack of communications and poor management in different teams. - Onboarding for new hires is so bad that it's like non-existence. That's the reason why new employees take longer to be familiar with the business and how their team operates. This is one of the reasons to cause second bullets. - There is no personal or career development at all. Petco does not have any programs to help employees enhance their skillsets. - might depend on the team leader, but for mine, there is no team building at all, there's only one 30 min meeting each week to talk about workload. Most of my coworkers work remotely, we barely talk to each other. When it comes to collaborative projects, it becomes a problem. Also another factor contribute to the second bullet. - benefits. All standard, nothing special. Maybe employee discount if you have pets. You merit and bonus depend on finance situation and everyone knows how Petco's finance situation is. Recently Petco just annouced to employees that there's no 6 month wait period to 401k matching. And their matching% is really low. The company thinks this is big news but the reality is that most companies don't have that waiting period and the matching% is a bit higher. No one really was excited about this. When you apply for corporate jobs at Petco, please do a thorough research of the company and the team you are about to get into.

Pros

DM is a good person who genuinely wants to support the stores, but unfortunately he’s also caught in the middle of all this chaos.

Cons

Literally EVERYTHING! • Extremely limited payroll stores are frequently staffed with only two employees for an entire day, which is not sustainable. • Leadership appears disconnected from store level operations, with little clear direction. Initiatives often feel reactive, as if decisions are being tested without a consistent long term strategy. • Expansion into non pet related products raises concerns about the company’s financial health and overall focus. • Workload is overwhelming, with planogram changes happening frequently sometimes multiple times within the same week. • IT systems are unreliable, and when issues arise, store teams are expected to find workarounds rather than receiving timely support. • Animal care no longer seems to be a top priority at the corporate level. Current setups (e.g., “Desk Pets”) appear inconsistent with the company’s own care standards and guidelines.
