Pros

Employees with a high tolerance to work in a fractured environment can be very successful and would be able to both personally advance their career and help pave the way to a better environment. This may sound like a con, but it truly is a PRO for folks that can really push through this type of atmosphere.

Cons

A culture of CYA is pervasive and issues are quickly handled (even if quality issues exist) and passed down the value stream to the next operation with a “I did my job now it’s the next operation down the line’s problem” mentality. Again CYA. Many talented employees have tried to correct this, but this culture is so deep rooted that any change needs to be driven (and successfully executed) from the very top. Extremely high turnover.

Cons

Everything. Don’t work in that machine shop. New manager that has never managed before. Guy will lie to your face and throw you under the bus to make himself look good. He’s been working on a do as I say not as I do environment. No CNC machines. All manual. Primitive tooling. Head engineer will downgrade your skills and experience. His father was even worse. Find another shop as this one is close to closing. Bonuses were discontinued and health insurance doubled.
