Pros

There is a lot of autonomy. You can come up with and present your own sales focused initiatives and as long as the project makes sense, contributes to sales and growth, you track it and it has demonstrable positive results, you are usually green lighted. Management will drive you hard, but I think it's mostly because they don't want there to be any excuse for poor performance. I.e. if numbers or performance are down, it is not for lack of pushing on their part. So the job can be stressful, but that is the nature of sales. Ultimately if you can defend yourself concisely and rationally, they will be open to listening and taking into consideration. Generally if you are growing and your numbers are up, they will hold you to the same standards and expectations of everyone else. This is not a bad thing, but for those who expect special treatment for being a top performer, it is important to understand you may get some slack, but you are still expected to adhere to the same processes and requirements of everyone on the team.

Cons

They can be hard on you. It's a tough love thing. If you have a tough time with tough love, it will be a struggle for you. Upper management can over promise and under deliver on updates and upgrades to products, new products, go-live dates, etc. i.e. They will tell you a new product, feature, sample, etc. will be available at a certain date, but it is not actually ready for another 6 months to a year. So you get your customers excited, and then spend a good chunk of time pushing them off until it's finally ready, and even then it may not be able to do all the things you were told (and in turn told your customers) it could do. The worst part is samples.... Our customers require them in order to show the product and sell them to homeowners and end users. Samples are often back logged and out of stock, and you are still expected to grow sales without being able to give your customers the tools they need with which to make and generate those sales.
