Pros
There aren't many pros about working at the titanic of department stores. If I had to name one pro it would be that you get experience in retail, and that they hire nearly anyone. The employee discount is 20% but you either get a macys credit card (subject to credit approval) or a pre paid card laced with 20% off. You have to put money into the card before you can use it, and the 20% off comes on the statement. Not right away.
Cons
Where to start? I suppose I'll start with the main issues. 1. Credits- your job as a sales associate is to trick people to apply for an unnecessary- high interest rate credit card. If approved, the customer saves 20% off their statement. The managers will shove these down your throat and harass you to get two credits a week, although most macys customers already have the card. 2. Colleagues- the full time associates will always look down on part timers. They will hog the register like their paycheck depends on it and they will stop at nothing to meet and exceed their sales goal. What they don't know is that they are extremely volatile and replaceable. They will fire you for no good reason just to cut down on costs. Some people working there are nice, some truly disregard the customer and are lazy people. 3. Managers- they are on everyone's you know what but their own. They are on a power trip and will throw you under the bus in a second. They only care for themselves and seem to believe they are Napoleon himself. When they do come down from their offices, it's to yell at you to get credits before retreating back to their cave. 4. Your job- it's 5 jobs in one. You do returns and exchanges, you clean the fitting room, listen to customer complaints and are expected to find a solution to "take care of the customer" even if it's a direct violation of the macys policy. Additionally, you keep the sales floor clean by recovering areas. On top of all of this you must get macys cards and enroll people for plenti. You must also walk around the floor and attend to customers, all while watching for shoplifters. Oh yeah, and do go backs. What's expected of you doesn't correlate to the wage you're being paid. You're literally a slave to macys.
