Little opportunity in DCG for US-based software engineers - Software Engineer Lenovo Employee Review

Pros

- Good coworkers - "Unlimited" vacation - Decent work-life balance

Cons

- In DCG, there has been a trend of moving much of the software engineering / development overseas and laying off employees in the US to reduce costs. - At the Morrisville site, the office is being converted into an open workspace which they touted as being a good thing just because it is "new", "modern", and will "attract new talent". But in reality, this is being done, so that they can cram more people into each building - once again, a cost reduction measure.

Thank you for taking the time to write this review. We value your feedback. Reducing our workforce is a difficult, but necessary, decision to make as we continue to execute our strategy for Intelligent Transformation while achieving sustainable, profitable growth. Recently we had to take this step of rebalancing our headcount and skills to position us for the future. We treated those affected with dignity and respect, and offered a strong transitional program. While we may reduce positions in certain areas of the business, we are investing in others, adding new employees with the necessary skills to fuel our future growth. Lenovo will continue to make adjustments as needed as part of our ongoing management of the business.

Pros

Absolutely love my team, people, culture, and work events. Genuinely I can't think of any cons. 3 days in-person, 2 days remote. Best work life balance ever, and great pay. Even intern benefits are amazing

Cons

None that I can think of

Pros

Interesting work, good benefits, talented colleagues

Cons

Terrible manager behavior, terrible work-life balance, with no recourse or support for employees. I joined and quickly found that the ED I reported to had no experience in the area he oversaw, would not listen to anyone who had experience, was mean to his team members, and set wildly unrealistic expectations without any clear direction or consistency. Bullying, meanness and pointless criticism were the norm, while leadership was completely lacking. And if you work on the Digital Transformation team, expect to spend from 8PM-11PM at night and early morning on calls, with little regard for sleep or work-life balance. The worst part was finding out that the HR team was already well aware of all these problems with my ED (the two other managers under him quit), and the leadership team had no intention of making any changes. So disappointing.
