Pros
Worked for IBM for almost 10 years and saw the company morph from its core values. I enjoyed several years at this company and got experiences both international and in the US that were fantastic for my resume. In the US, felt empowered to take risks and was supported to deliver results. Different experience outside the US. IBM is committed to volunteering and being active in the community. Especially in the US. Very strong and deep technical expertise. I really believe you can put a team together in IBM to solve almost any problem. Many career paths within IBM if you can navigate the company but career growth is slow Truly multicultural workforce even in the US
Cons
People are no longer to live the values that the company espouses and be successful. Measurements and cultural environment are in conflict with that. 2015 roadmap is not helping. Working for IBM abroad is very different than the US. Your career will be impacted and not necessarily positively but if global experience is important to you, IBM is one of the places where you can get international opportunities. The pressure to deliver the numbers sometimes means that people are cutting corners on integrity. Management turns a blind eye if the numbers come in. In countries where labor laws are not enforced, IBM provides the least they can get away with. Employees are often left with dipping in their pockets to get work done as processes abroad are inadequate and slow. Senior Management seems to be getting less and less able to take calculated risks for the company so no air cover for employees on the front line. Seems there is an air of desperation rather than confidence. IBM is more tolerant of abusive behavior towards employees especially in sales roles. This is different than when I joined IBM.
