Pros

HubSpot does a really good job making employees feel very valued at work. They are flexible with the employees’ work life balance. So people are very happy, creates a very welcoming and friendly environment.

Cons

Do HubSpot employees really have good quality of living though? It is very difficult to live in Boston with this very low salary. I make less than 40 k at HubSpot. There is no transportation benefit, no meals provided, and no bonus unlike other companies. With HubSpot salary, your quality of living is very pathetic. Unless you want to pay very high rent around Boston, you would have to live very far away. For commuters, cooking at home is not an option, especially if your dept requires you to work late shifts. Nobody has time to cook. You either snack your meals with free snacks in the office or spend a lot of money buying food. There are a lot of employees in the office who snack their meals with chips and cereals from the office. They are brining in smoothie baristas next year, but I bet there are going to be a lot of people drinking smoothie to substitute their breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I did not sign up for any health benefits because I cannot deduct any more pay from my salary for that. I just suck it up and suffer through if I ever get sick. On weekends, you shouldn’t go out with your friends because you would not have any money to save up for your future. They have “unlimited” paid time off, but they should not call it unlimited because who would be dumb enough to take unlimited paid vacation and get fired? Some employees don’t feel comfortable taking vacation because they always say “Use Good Judgement.” 401k? Their match is a joke. You are not going have a bright future here. It is true that they have fun events and food here and there, but they are not even having employee holiday party this year! HubSpot is making a lot of money right now, all time high stocks. Very strange how employees not benefiting much from this. No holiday bonus, awesome. You will not make any fortune out of stock purchase plans. We are not going to be like 1990s Microsoft which every single employees including their janitors made money off of company stock. HubSpot, it’s just an extra income you’d be making if the company does well.

Obviously, this review is disappointing for a number of reasons and doesn't represent who we want to be as an organization. A few notes: everyone, including our support representatives gets an equity grant, and that's intentional--we want everyone from the front lines up to feel ownership in the company and benefit from our growth, so the compensation for support folks includes stock because we want employees to accumulate financial gain alongside the company. Second, we are always looking at benchmarks for similar roles to ensure we get things right on this stuff, and looking at the mix of our employees who are represented by location--we recognize Cambridge is an expensive place to live and work, so we are thinking about how we balance hiring here versus other locations and how we ensure our compensation strategy is fair and clear for everyone. I appreciate the feedback although it's hard to hear. -Katie

Pros

Great people, everyone is so understanding and supportive. Culture is fun and energizing, people seem happy to be here. There's lots of ways to get involved outside of your day job. Awesome benefits and flexibility - love the remote first work environment, week of rest, open PTO, etc. Robust tech stack - lots of tools available for me to do my job.

Cons

Experiencing some growing pains but leadership seems receptive to feedback on it.

Pros

The teams you work with are phenomenal. The knowledge combination between an internal customer facing teams, engineering product development teams, and Sales are unmatched.

Cons

Excessive use of PIPs to oust employees after multiple high revenue launches, with no explanation, actual documentation, or factual data. Reviews have been adjusted to allow for terminations post pre-approved leaves. Salaries are a joke. You are always in a cover yourself mode 24/7. Management reviews are consistently a 2 or 3 out of 5 no matter what. If a team decides you aren’t in the group, management will put you on a “unofficial” PIP without telling you, in order to surprise you at a later date. Even if they are unfounded. Beware of possibility of negative backlash post launches. They will feel the need to assign blame ( such as for timelines or issues related to bugs). Regardless of performance or level of involvement. This is an enormous company with many large paths for career advancement. But micro management is rampant, leaving little room for doing the daily expectations of your actual role. This degrades your opportunities for career advancement.
