Pros

You learn how NOT to run a company from this leadership team

Cons

Low trust, low empathy, toxic environment. Lizard leadership team full of cowards who bow down to the ego and greed of the CEO. You will be burnt out and extracted for anything that helps the company, then disrespected and discarded without a second thought. Unsustainable, fear-based culture that does not value humanity and isn’t afraid to say so. Constant firings and turnover - I myself could not make it a full year. Don’t bother making friends because one of you will be fired or leave within a few months. Zero respect or accountability from immature leadership who make haphazard decisions and then blame others for their bad work. If you’re like me a few months ago, reading nightmarish reviews about this company while interviewing, thinking “oh it might just be department-specific issues…” please take my experience seriously and do yourself a favor: withdraw. You deserve better.

Pros

Working at Garner Health as a software engineer was a fantastic experience. Two things really set this company apart: the mission and the people. First, the mission is genuinely impactful. It’s incredibly motivating to come to work every day knowing that the code you are writing directly helps people find high-quality, affordable healthcare. Second, the talent level across the engineering team is top-notch. I was constantly surrounded by smart, driven, and collaborative engineers who raised the bar and helped me grow technically. The culture is highly supportive, ownership is encouraged, and there is a real focus on building things the right way.

Cons

Like any fast-growing company, things move quickly and priorities can shift. You need to be comfortable with ambiguity and adaptable to change. These transitions could be handled better with clearer communication.

Pros

-A lot has changed at Garner in the last several years, for the better. There used to be a huge culture of micromanagement from the top down, and now that we’ve grown larger that has shifted -High value product with a ton of growth potential that’s actually making a difference -really great peers who are ambitious and mission-driven -good salaries -lots of opportunity if you like to build and iterate -interesting ever changing work -management that really cares about me

Cons

Your experience at Garner really depends on your department. Some work you to the bone, some have weak leadership, others are great. Working directly with the CEO is tough as he is more of a micromanager. My team doesn’t happen to have that issue or a work life balance issue so much, so my experience has generally been good. - low diversity, likes to recruit from consulting firms too much -if you aren’t efficient or don’t use the tools available, work life balance will suffer
