Pros

Let me start by saying that I've worked in a number of different companies at this point in my career. None are perfect and Equi is no exception. That being said, it's one of the better places I've worked for three reasons: 1) Good people (including leadership, despite what some of these reviews say) 2) Interesting work 3) Flexible hybrid culture

Cons

I think the founders could do a better job of hiring. They tend to bring on the wrong people and then we all suffer. For example, we had a circle of drama queens that included the former leaders of Marketing and HR, and they went from loving the founders to absolutely hating them. They made a sport out of badmouthing the founders and it really degraded the culture for all of us. I wanted to focus on doing good work and working with good people, but this created a massive distraction that I didn't enjoy.

Equi Response

Thank you for this honest and constructive review. We're grateful you found Equi to be one of the better places you've worked, despite the challenges you experienced. Your three positives mean a lot to us, especially your faith in our people and culture. You're absolutely right about our hiring missteps. We take full responsibility for bringing in individuals who didn't align with our values and created the toxic dynamics you described. The situation you referenced was a painful learning experience that we should have addressed more decisively. We've since strengthened our hiring process and are quicker to recognize when someone isn't the right fit. Your advice to "fire the bad apples faster" is spot on, and we're committed to protecting the culture that makes Equi special. Thank you for your contributions during your time here.

Pros

I felt compelled to write this because I was personally approached by the former VP of Marketing with a request to write a disparaging post about the founders and firm. At the time, I told her I wasn't going to do that because it didn't accurately represent my experience. Despite her insistence that the founders are "bad people," my lived experience is the opposite. I think both of the founders are sharp and well-intentioned. They always treated me fairly and supported me and my career objectives. I've maintained a good relationship with both of them since leaving and from what I've heard, the firm is doing exceptionally well now. I have nothing but positive things to say and wish the Equi team great success moving forward.

Cons

While I was there, the VP of Marketing, HR, and COO formed a bit of a "mean girls" group that would make a sport out of putting down the founders and speaking negatively all the time. This should not have been tolerated and it made the experience bad for everyone. I understand the firm was struggling to find product market fit at the time, so things were far from perfect, but the culture was really bad at the time. Fixing that is my biggest piece of feedback.

Pros

The mission here is real, and you can feel it in how decisions get made and how leadership talks about the work. The team is thoughtful, collaborative, and high-caliber without being cutthroat. As an HR Business Partner, I've appreciated that people strategy is treated as a core function and not an afterthought. There's genuine investment in employee growth, whether through stretch assignments, mentorship, or just the freedom to take ownership of your work early on. Work-life balance is respected too. Flexibility is the norm and managers lead by example on that front.

Cons

Like most growing companies, processes and structure are still catching up to the pace of the team. Some things that should be documented live in people's heads. If you need a lot of established playbooks it can feel ambiguous, but if you're comfortable building as you go, that's actually energizing rather than frustrating.
