Pros

Good pay for the Verona area. - The pay and great healthcare make Epic a good fit for people who enjoy a slower and stagnant lifestyle who plan on living in Verona for a long time. You're directly involved in the healthcare industry, so the work you do will most likely make a difference.

Cons

Location - The campus is in Verona, a suburb ~30 minutes away from Madison. - You'll be living in Wisconsin, which isn't a great place to build an engineering career. For people that haven't lived in the Midwest, or come from major cities, I strongly advise against this. A dead end for young, aspiring software engineers/developers. - Most of the work you do here is useless for your future career. You may code in Mumps, VB, and other dated frameworks. None will boost your resume, or prove helpful in finding that next job. - Any CS knowledge you have will be rarely used, as your work will focus more on Epic's internal software & practices. Terrible vacation policies - You'll start out with earning .84 vacation days per month (yep, it's per month) for first 2 years. - Epic respects only 6 days worth of national holidays. Poor work/life balance - Covered in the other reviews, but you're expected to work at least 50 hours per week. Working/logging under 45 hours will most likely result in a strict talking-to from your TL. No overtime pay. Low pay as an engineer in general - Your starting salary is actually $10,000 less than you thought, because they pay you less while you're training for the first few months. - The signing bonus? Has to be repaid if you leave within the first year, and partially repaid if you leave before 2 years. - The salary is significantly lower than most starting engineer salaries at large companies. Epic recruiters search in lots of college job boards & websites to find candidates. If you're a college grad, really think twice before joining.

Pros

Impact: You are part of creating systemic level change for healthcare organizations. You get to be on site and work directly with providers and see how these changes impact their communities. People: Extremely smart and capable. I feel like I can rely on my team in a way I haven't at previous employers. New hires are entry level, so there's a strong community for people in a similar stage of life. Culture: Quirky but in a real, unique way. People are collaborative and celebrate shared accomplishments. The campus enshrines a very specific (and fun!) vibe. Location: Madison is awesome. Benefits: The health insurance is unparalleled. Sabbatical is a super cool perk too. Growth: A lot of autonomy and responsibility allows people to rise to the challenge. Stability: Solid industry, no lay-offs.

Cons

Remote work flexibility: 5 days a year
