Pros
Decent benefits: healthcare, retirement, days off. Nothing exceptional, but good compared to many other in the region
Cons
An unfortunate but necessary side effect of being an educational institution is that staff are at the bottom of the pile when it comes to what leadership is concerned about, behind students and then faculty. However, the level of support from leadership given to staff is a tiny fraction of what is given to faculty. Many faculty are horrible managers and engage in some abusive behavior to their staff, but HR does nothing. Central HR in general does not seem to care at all for the concerns of staff, don't expect to get anything from them. They pretend to care more for their employees than other large employers in the area, but their behavior shows a deep-seated pattern of repeatedly exploiting their staff-level employees.
