Pros

The work is not that demanding and colleagues are generally supportive and helpful. They are willing to work with your school schedule.

Cons

Job opening is usually limited. Most of the positions are reserved for Federal-work study.

Pros

Benefits are decent and the campus is well manicured.

Cons

Extremely toxic, bullying, harassment culture from managers who are inept and hired without qualification, as others have mentioned. I worked for a year and left a phenomenal university to come here, only to discover that hiring of managers is done without regard to actual qualifications. I was harassed, had personal items stolen from my manager, name called, bullied, threatened, gas-lighted, and when I went to HR, they told me to deal with it. They also used the same tactic, initially, pretending to be concerned, only to extract information to use it AGAINST you later. The benefits are not worth working here. I have worked at top tier Institutions and the research here is subpar. This is because management is full of unqualified personnel who seek to destroy the science due to their need to feel competent and validated. HR doesn't protect employees, they have a hierarchy which first they protect PIs, then managers, etc. They do this because they said this is the best way to protect the University reputation etc. Management KNOWS this and take advantage of it.

Pros

Emory University has a good reputation and aspires to be admired in education, research, and humanitarian efforts. Employees can feel that they are a part of something that is positive. The University President's agenda/intention is outstanding and the new Leadership joining Emory will hopefully have a tremendous impact on ALL of the University's staff members.

Cons

The workload is often crushing and the compensation is not market competitive. Many exempt and non-exempt employees are overworked and underpaid which does not leave much room for an employee to feel balanced or valued. Emory throws a lot of resources and hoopla around Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, work-life balance, and employee wellness, it's more hype than reality. The longer you stay employed at Emory, the more behind you are towards having the ability to afford your life in retirement. Compensation matters... We cannot live off of "goodwill" alone...
