Pros
- Excellent pay and benefits. - Great exposure to high profile road projects.
Cons
- No advancement for local employees. Only Spaniards continue to be promoted regardless of their skill level. - Many Spain expats do not speak English well, let alone understand DOT specifications. Yet they hold key positions which are for the most part out of reach for American employees. - Low moral values. Senior management pushes for the highest financially rewarding option, even if that means delivering a substandard product or not paying subcontractors and suppliers. I witnessed local small businesses going out of business because Dragados would look for any excuse to avoid paying their bills. - When projects thin down, they lay Americans off. Meanwhile, Spaniards keep their jobs regardless of their performance, while waves of Spanish "interns" roll in every couple of months or so.
