Pros

A great place to learn more about clinical research while directly contributing to the advancement of medical treatments and helping patients who might not otherwise have access to these therapies. The other CRCs are incredibly kind and supportive, creating a collaborative environment where everyone helps one another and no one feels overwhelmed or left behind.

Cons

One of the biggest challenges was the management culture. Leadership often felt heavily focused on metrics and productivity, with employee value tied closely to enrollment numbers and revenue generation rather than individual effort or growth. Despite consistently taking on responsibilities beyond my role and achieving the top enrollment numbers at my site, I still rarely felt recognized or supported for my contributions. Ultimately, I was let go due to slow study flow, which made the experience feel especially discouraging given the level of effort and results I had delivered. There was also a lack of support and advocacy from management at the site level. Communication, training, and leadership often felt inconsistent, and staff members were sometimes left to navigate challenges without adequate guidance or acknowledgment. I frequently found myself recognizing and encouraging my fellow CRCs because that support was missing from leadership. What made the experience particularly difficult was that I genuinely loved the work itself and believed in the mission of helping patients through clinical research. However, the overall management approach left me feeling undervalued and questioning whether hard work and dedication were truly appreciated. It was disappointing to invest so much into the role and still feel easily replaceable when operational needs changed.

Pros

You have the opportunity to learn so much and really help the community in terms of research and offering treatment. It is very rewarding working with a patient through study completion and getting to establish a connection with them and know you have made a difference for them. No 2 days are the same especially if the site has multiple studies going on at the same time- which for most locations, is usually the case! There is lots of balancing and multi-tasking; which can sometimes be a challenge but having a strong team to work with and help delegate tasks can really make a difference. There is lots of room to grow and opportunities to strengthen the skills you bring to the table, and develop new ones you didn't have before (i.e. blood draws, doing an ECG or checking vitals). I have also gotten to travel to 3 other out-of-state sites and help support them when they have an influx in patients at the beginning of a study. I have really enjoyed working here and would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a career in the medical field and/or research.

Cons

Training of new team members takes some time as there are so many different tasks to learn depending on current studies and previous experience of new hire. This can be a pro or con- but the schedule and 'flow' of the day can vary- there can be really quick, easy days or there can be long, strenuous days depending on studies going on and number of people scheduled. It is hard to predict what the day will look like until you get closer to that day.
