Generally speaking, Scrum Masters are just told how and what to do. Open discussion is frowned upon. I have seen many Scrum Masters battered by the teams and ill equipped product owners.
Middle management leads authoritatively, just do what you are told if you want to keep your job. Most managers are not skilled or equipped to lead people or create true collaboration and autonomy. The effort and focus is on metrics - no one brings team members together for collaboration or team building even when asked. But we meet regularly to review metrics. Leaders show general mistrust of employees and assume ill will of others showing their emotional immaturity and micromanaging the employees. Leading agility efforts is a farce if you do not allow the employees to make their own processes and handle task management.
There is a lot of narcissism. Challenging the status quo is unacceptable. I am sorry that I attempted to persuade people into being an open and collaborate environment because I have paid the price.
Diversity is a huge problem for this day and age, I am shocked. There are many internal organizations that are more than 90% male, also lacking black employees. Black male leaders are sparse. Women leaders (black and white) are sparse.
I am ashamed to tell others how I am treated as an employee and I wake up with knots in my stomach each work day. It is a "say yes" environment. If you are trying to do the right thing and help the company to grow into new ways of working, this is not the place for you.
