Liars and Thieves - Anonymous employee Co-op Employee Review

I worked there for about 2 months on night shifts (dealing with restock and deliveries) and had to leave because they failed to pay me what I was owed. The contract they gave me when I started was out of date, and no one told me a dime about break entitlement despite asking numerous people. People who had worked there for years didnt even know the answer and everyone seemed to give different answers about breaks (I guess because no one was told the truth). I was actually meant to receive 1.5hrs break- spilt into 1 hour and two 15 mins i think, (half an hour was meant to be paid btw), but i wasnt even given a minutes break often. The manager told me "we dont really take breaks here...". It was obvious that I was expected not to. If i did take the breaks then we wouldnt finish until the afternoon next day! I received no training at all. They deliberately understaffed every single day/night without fail. I was doing the job that 3-4 people should be handling. Then the team leaders would keep telling us to work fast etc. We couldnt leave until the job was done. one person became very sick and wasnt allowed to go home! I worked over the hours of my contract every time. I was meant to finish early morning but on the busiest days it would carry on until afternoon. then they would say i finished at 7am.. even though i would clock out much later. This happened repeatedly and they argued they split shifts which isnt allowed. I wasnt paid for many many of my hours and they basically robbed me of the correct wages too. when you work nights youre meant to be paid 1.33 times the rate, and if its over time its meant to be 1.5 times. I worked overtime consistently but they avoided paying me this by cutting my hours on the books and saying theyve split my shifts and promise to pay me next month... yeah yeah. It was a joke. and managers pretend they dont understand things and act real friendly but theyre stabbing you in the back. only managers and team leaders get full time contracts no one else, but they act like if you work hard theyll give you it. lies. I left because I was extremely unwell from working so hard full time and for not being paid what I was meant to consistently. I was fed up with being treated like rubbish. They lost out on a hard worker, I could have done a lot if only they were honest with their staff and paid them wages advertised.
