Pros

Citi is a place to learn the craft of banking, within whatever profession one works in, for me, I became both an executive and a talented architect for technology while I was there. It has a smart work force, all dedicated to doing a good job. It has sufficient power in the world, so that a person can build a great external network.

Cons

It suffers great paternalistic centralized control, which leads to an arrogance in which the best ideas from below, and from the regions are not given sufficient weight. This leads to frustration in the work force, poor results for the business, and great nepotism in the work place. Most folks I know at citi are simply getting a pay check, hoping things will get better.

Pros

Hybrid schedule, supportive managers, opportunities

Cons

Once you’re in, comp basically plateaus. Layoffs are happening across the board, which tends to be the full-time culture of citi. The vibe is very much “run lean” until something actually breaks, and only then consider adding headcount. You have to be intentional about protecting your work-life balance, because the implicit expectation is that you’re always on—24/7, 365—without the support of a properly staffed team.
