Pros
Excellent colleagues across Front Office and Middle Office. Strong brand and career opportunities. Many highly capable and dedicated employees who genuinely care about the business. Historically a collaborative and rewarding environment in which to build a career. Good exposure to senior stakeholders and complex products.
Cons
I joined Citi with more than 30 years of investment banking experience, having previously worked as an FX and commodities trader and held Director-level positions at other major financial institutions. I progressed from Vice President to Senior Vice President within FX Middle Office and enjoyed my role for many years. Unfortunately, my experience changed dramatically following a change in leadership within FICC Middle Office. In my view, the current leadership style is highly reactive, autocratic, and driven by short-term pressures rather than thoughtful strategy and long-term business objectives. Communication became increasingly poor, transparency was lacking, and decisions often appeared inconsistent and difficult to understand. Employee morale deteriorated significantly, and trust in leadership declined. I observed the loss of experienced and highly capable employees during this period and believe the business remains at risk of further talent attrition if the current leadership approach continues. There appeared to be little regard for the impact that management decisions had on employees, their careers, or their wellbeing. Despite years of service and a strong track record, I was informed without warning that my role was being relocated and that my employment was ending. There was no meaningful notice, discussion, or transparency surrounding the decision. My experience left me with the impression that job security within FICC Middle Office can be heavily influenced by changing management priorities regardless of performance, loyalty, or tenure. While Citi remains a great institution, I would currently exercise caution before joining FICC Middle Office until there is a meaningful change in leadership approach and culture.
