Pros

However, the communication with the HR department was positive and left a good impression.

Cons

The job description was deceptive and did not accurately reflect the tasks that were required. The interview process was also misleading, as the actual responsibilities were vastly different from what had been discussed. The onboarding process was unusual, involving multiple meetings and the requirement to personally meet all colleagues, even those outside of your department. Despite being advertised as an international company, the majority of employees were white Belgians who spoke Dutch and were not willing to speak English. Communication was difficult and there was a lot of pressure, with dishonesty being prevalent in many aspects of the job.

Dear, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback about your experience at Cheqroom. We are sorry to hear that your experience with us did not meet your expectations and would greatly appreciate it if you could contact our HR department so that we can further understand and address your concerns. Also, please see some of our thoughts and actions we will take based on your feedback. We will take action to review all of our current openings and ensure that the expectations align with the key deliverables for every role. While many roles at this stage of growth require some flexibility as business needs arise, we are sorry to hear that a misalignment presented itself. Despite growing in company size, we have kept an early tradition of “coffee chats” with our new hires. One key driver of our success is breaking down departmental silos by understanding how we all play an important role in building this business. We are saddened to hear that this wasn’t an enjoyable aspect of your onboarding and would be eager to understand if there is an alternative way to achieve great connections with employees across the organization. Our company language is English (within both our Belgium and US teams), for all in-office, virtual meetings and company-wide all-hands. It is unfortunate to hear that there were instances where this wasn’t being upheld. We will bring this to our next all-hands as a reminder that a common language is a part of what creates inclusivity amongst a culturally diverse group. Thank you once again for your feedback. We look forward to hearing from you and working towards a positive resolution. Sincerely Eveline - Head of People

Pros

Working at Cheqroom has been an incredibly positive experience. This is truly a "people first" organization where employees are valued and supported. Transparency is a core value, and leadership communicates openly about the company’s goals, challenges, and successes, which helps everyone feel informed and included. Collaboration is at the heart of everything we do. The team is exceptionally talented, and there’s a strong sense of camaraderie. People are always willing to help one another and share knowledge. It’s motivating to be surrounded by such passionate individuals who truly care about the company’s success. One of the best aspects is the flexibility the company offers. Cheqroom fully understands the importance of work-life balance and supports its employees in managing both.

Cons

While the company is doing great overall, like any organization, there are occasional growing pains. But the leadership is proactive in seeking feedback and continuously improving.
