Pros

Working with some good people and some intelligent minds who were focussed on supporting and helping SME's to improve their business. Client proposition was good and a genuine focus to improve their client businesses. Good benefits in place and some fantastic work colleagues.

Cons

Very slow decision making internally and experts within the support functions are not trusted in regards to their expertise. Ideas in regards to improving service that had to go before the board were overly analysed and the expertise of the individual not trusted; to the point that you wonder why you are there as the expert. Outwardly flexible working encouraged but in the final few months I found this was subvertly singled out as an issue by the senior leader in our group. New leaderhip in one of the key support areas very domineering and non-empowering. You are left to self-improve and given wider responsibilities without any specific training or guidance.

Pros

Compensation is OK. There are some really nice people in the organization to work with, but you have to find them.

Cons

If you are not part of the SWC "club" (company name prior to them joining BDO), good luck. Poor leadership!!! Practice lead talks to everyone like they are talking to a CEO, not relatable in most cases. No clear employee development plans. You are held accountable for things completely outside of your individual control. They stress incorporating AI into work strategy, but have no plan on what that looks like or how to do it and want everyone to formulate it because leadership has no roadmap. One has no control over where you want to take your career, yet you are expected to know everything, about everything. As a result, you become an expert of nothing! Work assigned rarely leverages skills, almost as if they throw darts to see who works on what.
