Pros

- Stellar product - Great people who are smart, caring, and genuinely happy for one another's successes - Training is intense but you learn a lot - Middle management is good - Company is probably going places

Cons

- Sliced up the pie when tripling the size of SDR team this year and as a result, quotas have become more or less unattainable. They expect you to hit the same meeting target with a fraction of the territory SDRs had this time last year. - No equity. What matters most is the quality of the book you've been given, not your effort or quality of work. In some areas quota is attainable. In others, it is all but impossible. Though effort always counts, it is not rewarded at AlphaSense, and therefore not encouraged. - Upper Management is either totally disconnected or does not care. Even persistent efforts to raise issue internally end up falling on deaf ears, and you are more or less stonewalled and told to "try harder". - Hired so many people that promotions are being pushed out and it is now looking like a minimum 15-month track to AE promotion. - Using large SDR force to maximize revenue before IPO and screwing them over on quota attainment. - In several areas you are forced to hound fed up prospects over and over and over due to a lack of territory and sky high expectations. Reputational repercussions for the sales team will follow if this persists.

AlphaSense Response

Thank you for your review. We’re happy to hear that you enjoyed our product, training, management, and team environment. It’s true that 2022 and 2023 so far have been years of massive growth for AlphaSense and therefore, the SDR team. The opportunity we have as a business is vast and our territories and books of business are always growing. Regarding quota attainability, we did have the majority of our team hit their meeting targets last year. SDR management has an open-door policy, and we encourage people who have concerns about their quota attainability to speak with their managers directly. We are transparent about the promotion process internally. While there is no set timeline in months to complete before getting promoted, we do have a levels program in the SDR organization in which SDRs hit performance achievements to move up in levels within the organization. Once they reach level 4, they are eligible to participate in Sales Academy and can interview for promotion within the organization. We have an internal job board to help be transparent about which roles are open for application, and we regularly communicate new opportunities as they open. As an action we have taken to create even more opportunities for promotion, we recently created a new Senior SDR position to create more frequent opportunities for advancement within the team. If you’d like to discuss further, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me internally or on LinkedIn. -Matt Alfano, Director, Sales Development

Pros

Flexibility (full autonomy over schedule and location), office perks, tons of resources for self development

Cons

Increasingly toxic and cutthroat culture. Pay is below market rate. Quality appears to be less of a leadership priority and there is extreme inconsistency in terms of internal talent. Lots of closed-door conversations happening by leadership. No feasible upward mobility if you didn't start at the right time a few years ago.
