Pros

It was a great way to learn all the facets of business and to see the bare bones operations of a company first hand. You gain experience working in the store at the register, stocking, managing store levels and more. You will also get to work hand in hand with the District Managers and often by the end of it getting to do some things independently, such as conducting an interview, an audit, inventory, doing a store walk, dealing with the day to day issues the stores may face.

Cons

I thought the internship was not structured very well, or at least the structure wasn't followed. No one really knew exactly what you were supposed to being doing as an intern, and often times you were just used for what ever they needed you for. The stores are extremely understaffed and while working in the store phase, the store mangers use you as an extra associate and don't give you proper training. In my internship group, not one of us had the same store phase experience, which I feel takes away from the internship because some people learn more than others and therefore are able to do more throughout the internship while in the DM phase 2. I felt that the company was very unprepared for interns. They didn't really know what to do and you seemed like a burden to them. The company literally does not care how you're treated and the DMs will tell you that. The company has a lot of issues with firing employees. In several of the stores I worked at there were numerous complaints about certain employees who were just horrible, not contributing, stealing, showing up late to work, having an attitude, and they were still there. The store managers have no way of firing these people and because its the DMs job and they are not there all the time, often they rely on word of mouth and it is not enough to fire a person or the DM simply doesn't prioritize it high enough. It is just a horrible system and something needs to be done because some stores are suffering because of this. In general, this was a pretty negative experience. I would NOT recommend this position to absolutely ANYONE. It will be the worst summer of your life.
