Before you read the below, be conscious of the following: ADP is a big, diverse company meaning that this feedback doesn’t necessarily apply to all teams and locations across the organization. While the experiences below are mine, the thoughts and feelings I’m sharing also reflect those of many that I directly worked with.
There are really so many directions you could consider the cons of working for ADP. Some are relevant to the greater organization, while others are specific to the job function or team that you work within.
Firstly, from a company perspective, ADP is going nowhere. If you're interested in blowing back the cobwebs and enjoying the feel of the 'good old days' selling double glazed windows and color printers, this is your place. In a world of innovation, technology, and customer experience, ADP's business objective is to sling ridiculous professional services at a market rate that not even they themselves can justify. Let that just sink in for a second. A multi-billion dollar company that invests millions a year into R&D sees it's competitive advantage as being it's professional outsourcing solutions.
The company slogan of "always designing for people" is nothing short of ironic. The only 'designing' for 'people' I have experienced in recent years have been aggressive spending freezes (pre-pandemic) and quota increases. No holiday parties, no sales kickoffs...no investment in their people. The entire company's value pitch is around the importance of valuing people and what they bring to their employer, yet none of that is reflected in their own company culture.
On a more local level, most roles are remote for the majority of the time, but worry not, you will be asked to visit the wonderful Californian suburb of Pleasanton once a week for some forced (and totally unnecessary) team meetings, before returning to your 6X6ft grey office cubicle (yes, they still have those).
Management on a local basis are totally disengaged. There is a CLEAR path for those who fall into the senior's favorites list and for everyone else, you will get the scraps. Those that fit the relevant mold will have priorities over the preferential territories, lower quotas and considerably higher earning potential.
