A facade. Don't be fooled.

Pros

· Competitive pay + benefits · Generally known agency with big brands · Summer Fridays · Snacks, Drinks, etc. · Laidback people

Cons

· Yet another corporate agency which looks cool on the exterior · Boring, uninspiring projects initially fluffed up to excite you. Ultimately, you'll end up doing production worked packaged as design · No overall company mission or purpose · Diminutive, flimsy design culture · Siloed, self-contained teams · CD micro-managing runs rampant. More often than not, reviews result in Do-As-I-Say critiques vs open, collaborative discussions—easy to feel disposable and like another cog in a machine · No room for growth and personal development · Company preaches inclusion, yet 95% of employees, and more importantly, upper-management, are Non-POC. Arbitrary, agency-wide meetings to remedy this are nothing more than virtue signaling

Great Group - Lacking Vision

Pros

- Elephant has a great work-life balance - Lots of really talented people, specifically in the creative department - Great focus on diversity and equity - Great compensation and the organization is committed to growth for its employees

Cons

- The agency proposition is confusing and unclear - Key leaders have left the agency and have not been replaced so the vision for the NY office is undefined at the moment - The agency is very client services-led, and I think it impacts the quality of the work as there are not enough people in place to manage the production and delivery of the work - The strategy department has declined significantly over the past couple of years, lacking vision for the agencies strategic offering - Zero office culture and not many culture-building events

Toxic Environment, awful leadership

Pros

Some people are really talented and kind, especially mid-level design team. Makes you understand clearly what you don't like and the type of leader you don't want to be.

Cons

Very hard to sum up all that is wrong with this place, but I think the most unforgivable issue is the dishonesty. Lies all the time, to clients, internally and during the interview process. Leadership is absolutely atrocious. They have no idea what they are doing so the solution is to blame other people for their own failures. They take no responsibility and act like kids every time something goes wrong. The toxicity gives me anxiety just thinking about it. There's a very well established blame culture put in place, people point fingers at each other without any shame. I thought I've seen it all in this crazy advertising world, trust me Elephant takes it to a whole other level.

Toxic culture

Pros

- Some passionate and talented people - Reasonable pay

Cons

This is a company that is still very much just a sister shop to Huge even if they don't want to admit it. Toxic people at the top leads to toxic culture throughout. - Very homogenous leadership in both race and gender leads to a very predictable pattern of thinking and therefore work. - Despite the homogenous make up, the leadership is fueled by ego and are extremely fractured. This leads to petty back stabbing behavior and divide within the office. - There isn't an actual vision the leadership could outline or even recite. The lack of vision really shows. - Micromanagement culture is rampant. We have people in leadership who should be focused on the big picture nitpicking the smallest of details in never-ending internal meetings. - The client list is uninspiring and the work is extremely mediocre. Even the work for some of the more "better" clients they have are extremely dry and dull. - Instead of investing and nurturing talent, they rather pay an endless stream of freelancers.

Pros

Big Clients that look great for your resume Decent Pay

Cons

Zero Culture - No one talks to each other, everyone gets lunch by themselves, the office is quiet . Soul Sucking Work - Most of the time you'll be working on a subsection of the product. Average Benefits - You get 14 PTO days, pay for insurance No Diversity or Minorities - When I was there, it was 90% white.

Pros

Elephant, having leveraged the reputation of Huge as their design parent, has attracted smart people and interesting clients. There have been plenty of people who have come through here capable of doing amazing work, and clients looking for it. They will likely continue to attract both.

Cons

It's a sweatshop. It's also an agency founded on a non-compete agreement, not a vision. It's really just a resource for Huge to funnel business they can't take somewhere else in the family. Client demands outstrip any other priority, so don't look for any consensus on what the right decision should be for the business, the office, or the people in it other than the business leads striving to satisfy client demands at any cost - stress, overtime, emotional well-being, ridiculous deadlines notwithstanding. The account folks run the roost, and creative is subjugated. Huge (pun intended) egos abound. Everyone believes they are there because they are the hottest talent to walk the Earth. Mostly, a lot of Huge Inc. alums who talk with cultish devotion about the old parent company like it's the only agency in the world. Expect to work with a lot of young, inexperienced designers and UX people with a chip on their shoulders, highly political, unhelpful account leads, self-interested climbers and Machiavellian creeps. No culture, even less joy, and pitiful compensation - regardless of the billings generated by top-shelf clients.
