Thank you for your review and feedback about your experiences at Elexon. My door is always open, if you'd like to call and speak to me in more detail, personally. Feedback is what helps us to improve. It's great to see that helpful, friendly colleagues are your 'Pros,' as we pride ourselves on that team interaction and support. In my experience, as someone still quite new to the company, I absolutely agree with you. It certainly makes the daily experience of working at Elexon a positive one. However, I am concerned that your 'Cons' relate to our recruitment process and colleague accountability. Getting these things right is crucial to our ongoing role within the industry and to the value we place on our people. Our new People Strategy aims to set out 'how we do things around here' and this will include how we recruit, engage, grow and reward our people. Our refreshed values will aim to empower staff to challenge working practices that might fall below what we strive to achieve. I very much want to see robust, fair processes, as this will help ensure that we meet the expectations of all of our people and continue to deliver the services our customers expect and deserve from us. Once again, thank you for your feedback and I wish you well for the future. Geraldine Buckland Chief People Officer

Pros

ELEXON is an extremely supportive and collaborative working environment, with friendly and helpful colleagues always willing to lend a hand, respond to questions, and to go the extra mile when needed. I found staff to be approachable, personable and friendly, which made for a productive and motivating atmosphere. My line manager was flexible, especially when making requests to work from home, and I had an extremely supportive manager and team, who were a joy to work with. The Executive team are accessible, visible and approachable, and generally worked hard to create a good working culture. ELEXON offers a good benefits package, which compared to other organisations I've worked at, is extremely generous. There is a good work-life balance, salary, and real efforts are made with the induction process and welcoming new starters to the organisation. There are lots of bright people working there, with a high level of technical knowledge, most of which people are willing to share, which helps people across the organisation learn about the technical aspects of the industry, as well as helping colleagues in their daily work.

Cons

There has been a high staff turnover, and there have been issues with career progression, however I appreciate that is the nature of corporate hierarchy - unless there is a shift in the senior management or team leads, there is limited opportunity to progress, but this is true of many companies. Due to the nature of the company, and working within the remit and limitations of the BSC, it can be very risk averse and bureaucratic. The subject matter can also be quite dry, which can mean that it is difficult to be energised and motivated by some of the work undertaken. There can be interesting projects to get involved in, but often this is limited to those able to get involved due to the expertise required. There has been a lot of work done to break down the silo mentality between departments, but there can be limited inter-departmental communication. With the introduction of Yammer, digital screens, and opportunities for knowledge sharing through Learn & Lunches, hopefully this will help to address some of these concerns.

Thank you for your very positive feedback about your time at Elexon. I am interested in your comments about not being able to obtain any qualifications from training. This is an interesting point as we do have a healthy training budget but maybe we should review this again if training opportunities are not, in your opinion, meeting the needs of our staff. We are very keen to invest in our staff and training is a key part of that commitment, so thanks for the heads up. We did previously have a graduate scheme but we are now revisiting this with the potential to opening it up much more by partnering with local colleges to offer work experience to support further education. We would certainly like to continue our support for the local area and are always exploring new methods of offering training and skill advancement to local schools. Brett Buchanan Head of Resourcing

Pros

ELEXON is about it's people, they have a fantastic benefits package (Great Pension, Private Medical Insurance, EAP, Subsidised Gym Membership, Eye Care, Cycle to Work, Child Care Vouchers etc) gernerous holiday allowance, CSR programme (2 days to contribute to charity, charity contribution scheme when participating in a charity event, support charities nominated by staff with fundraising activities, environmentally friendly) they are flexible (laptops, working from home, working hours) office location and facilities are great (free fruit 2x a week, coffee/water machines, close to shops/parks) you can have open conversations with colleagues, staff have a wealth of industry knowledge and will openly help anyone new to the business to pass on that knowledge. They provide great training opportunities and will help with anything you wish to develop. The new starter induction is great you get time to meet with each Executive member plus introduced to colleagues as the business is only 100 employees.

Cons

Accountability/relevant action by senior management is not always there when processes are not followed/when staff go against policy or act against company values. Management lines can sometimes be blured due to the relaxed nature of the business.

Pros

I have worked a number of places before coming and can really say that this by far has been the most interesting place to work. You have the opportunity to work with experts who are happy to mentor you. Colleagues are friendly and helpful. The company is going through an exciting period of change which is opening up opportunities which have not been there in the past. It is a great place to learn grow and contribute into a sector which is vital to this country’s economy

Cons

ELEXON is a medium size organisation with obvious constraints that inherent in similar medium size employer. If you are looking to grow your knowledge & profile within the electricity sector you can at ELEXON. If you are looking to progress up the proverbial corporate ladder at ELEXON, one would need to realise that as with any other medium size organisations ELEXON has a flat managerial structure

Thank you for taking the time to add a review on Glassdoor about your experiences at Elexon. Love the positive comments about colleagues as this is an essential part of a working environment and feeling part of a team and part of the whole organisation. We do undertake regular checks on our salaries matching them against those being offered across a range of industries to ensure we are competitive. We have made this competitive analysis a key strategic objective as we are keen to retain our talent and skills, particularly as job opportunities at Elexon continue to evolve.
