If you love taxes, it's a great place to start a career if you can survive.
Pros
Call centre is really diverse. You will meet people from all walks of life. The CRA is actively hiring different types of people. For the most part, its a great atmosphere when you are not on the line. The pay is really good when compared to other call centre jobs. The benefits are amazing if you do decide to take advantages of them ( ie: 30% off Rogers plan for corporate accounts). It's downtown, right next to the Quartier des spectacles. Plenty of restaurants. You can move up if you have the will and know how to politic Team leaders, for the most part will try to help you if you have issues (family, work, etc) You will learn a lot about personal taxes. You will have access to people who know the Income Tax by heart. A lot of great insights that can potentially pay off.
Cons
High stress and will leave you drained out no matter who you are. People do not like calling the CRA. They don't call because they want to but because the need to. People become clueless when it comes to taxes. This includes everybody from newly arrived immigrants to CEOs of huge corporations. If you don't have any patience, you will not survive. No time for social activities within work hours. You are expected and timed to be on the phone for a set amount of time. Forget about getting any kind of job security for the first 2 years. Horrible pay system (Phoenix). If you have any problems with your pay, no one in the whole building can help you because they have centralized the control to other departments of the Canadian government. Team leaders are generally nice people but they don't have any kind of power. All they do send emails when you have an issue but you are responsible with the replies. I still don't understand what they do when we don't have issues except talk to other team leaders.
