About Idol Sports Limited
Idol Sports Limited is the parent company of Idol Horse, one of the region’s fastest-growing horse racing media brands. We build multilingual racing coverage for modern audiences — combining sharp racing insight, fast digital publishing, and increasingly AI-powered workflows to scale quality across platforms.
The Role
We’re hiring a Racing Reporter & Translator (Chinese) to work under Editor, Michael Cox. This role is designed for someone who is serious about horse racing - especially the Hong Kong racing scene - and excited by the intersection of content + technology. You’ll help produce racing coverage and translate it between English and Chinese, but you’ll also play a hands-on role in how our website, CMS workflows, and AI tools operate day-to-day.
This is a pathway role toward becoming a product-minded racing editor / operations lead in a multilingual newsroom.
Key Responsibilities
1. Horse racing coverage & translation
a. Translate and localise racing stories (and racing terminology) accurately between English and Chinese.
b. Turn racing information (trackwork, barrier trials, form notes, stewards/jockey quotes, stable updates) into clean, structured website content.
2. CMS + website publishing (high ownership)
a. Publish and maintain stories in our CMS with strong standards: formatting, metadata, tags, linking, image handling, embeds, SEO fields.
b. Help improve templates and repeatable formats (race previews, tips sheets, horses to follow, trainer/jockey profiles, explainers).
3. AI-assisted workflows & structured data
a. Use AI tools to speed up translation, summaries, snippet creation, headlines, and social cutdowns - with human judgment and racing accuracy.
b. Help build structured datasets from content (e.g., horses-to-follow logs, stable notes, track bias notes, glossary/terminology banks).
c. Assist in testing new AI workflows and documenting “how we do it” so the team can replicate.
4. Analytics + iteration
a. Track performance (search, social, onsite engagement) and learn what content formats work.
b. Contribute ideas to improve discovery, internal linking, and evergreen racing pages.
5. Cross-team collaboration
a. Work with editors, social/multimedia, and product/tech partners to improve how racing content is created and distributed.
About You
· Strong horse racing literacy, particularly the Hong Kong racing scene: you understand form, class, track conditions, stable/jockey/trainer dynamics, and racing language.
· Confident English-Chinese translator/writer who can keep meaning and tone intact - especially with technical racing terms.
· Native-level Chinese, fluent in traditional Chinese (simplified Chinese is a plus), with strong English - most of the output is in Chinese, so Chinese is the language that has to be rock-solid.
· Comfortable working in a CMS and eager to learn “how the website works” (content structure, tagging, SEO fields, templates).
· Comfortable and good with AI tools and workflow automation — you like experimenting, improving processes, and building repeatable systems.
· Detail-oriented: accuracy matters (names, times, race numbers, conditions, quotes, and terminology).
· Self-starter who enjoys ownership and shipping improvements, not just completing assignments.
Nice to Have
- Experience with sports/racing databases, Google Sheets, basic data cleaning, or content ops.
- Basic understanding of SEO, structured content, or web publishing best practices.
- Familiarity with prompt-writing, translation memory/glossaries, or QA workflows.
What You’ll Learn
- How a modern racing brand scales multilingual coverage.
- AI-assisted production systems (translation, summarisation, content packaging).
- CMS and website operations that drive growth and audience.
