      Executive Team Leader Interview

      2 May 2010
      Anonymous employee
      Buffalo, NY
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through university. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Target (Buffalo, NY) in Apr 2010

      Interview

My first interview was on-campus at my schools career center consisting of a 2:1 interview. When I first arrived to the career center for the interview, I was brought into a meeting room where they brought all candidates. I then received a target folder that had drug test information along with other papers and filled out a consent form. A few candidates were in the meeting room waiting for their interviews as there a few interviews going on at the same time. I had to wait for the next interviewers to be free to interview me. This interview was all behavioral based questions asked by a STL and written down by an ETL. They want to see if you are a leader and want specific detailed answers to the questions they ask. When answering questions, use the STAR approach. Make sure you tell them the Situation and Task then the Actions you took to resolve the problem and finishing up your answer with the Result. If you use this technique you will do fine! A few days later I received an e-mail for final interviews at the district office. I arrived to district office where other candidates were waiting to be interviewed in the waiting room chatting with an ETL. From the time my interview was supposed to be to the time I was actually called in for my first interview took about 20 minutes. I was then interviewed by an ETL and a STL (2:1 interview). Again, this interview was all based on behavioral based questions. They ask questions about times you lead a group into a positive conclusion, what makes you a leader, how you resolve problems. They want people that are able to handle feedback and improve upon it as a leader. They only asked like a total of 5 behavioral questions which lasted about 20 minutes the most! After that interview I waited back in the waiting room with the rest of the candidates. When I was called in for the next interview for the day, I met with the District manager and ETL(another 2:1). Again, it consisted of behavioral based questions also all about leadership. When you give examples, talk about a mixture of work experience and also group work at school. This interview also consisted of 5 behavioral based questions and lasted about 20 minutes. Overall, the interviews were very short and all consisted of behavioral based questions. I didn't prepare for any of my interviews. However, if you get nervous interviewing and interviewing is a weakness for you just practice with basic questions like 'tell me about a time when you lead a group into a positive conclusion.' Go through the STAR approach to practice going through each step and actions you took to reach a POSITIVE result.

      Interview

It was a two step interview process. Personable and you are able to interview with not only your direct managers but theirs as well. Provides transparency into your new team. My interview was virtual because I was moving to the area, but I'm sure they do in person for local folks.
