The interviewers were polite and professional. These are the only positive aspects. Before the interview I read here on Glassdoor, under interview reviews, that people who are educated, have experience in fashion industry should not apply. I decided to try anyway. I am a fashion designer with a solid body of work: designed for popular stores, for premium brands, for woman, men, kids, plus size. I also have experience as a stylist and have a fashion blog. The 2 ladies who interviewed me did not ask me 1 single question about my background, my experience, my education, my resume, years of solid experience were irrelevant! I did home project where they asked me to style a 30 year old teacher. I styled her simply, nothing fashion forward, very Banana Republic, very tastefully. The imaginary client was petite, yet had issues with her midsection. I know for a fact what type of clothing suit this type of body, designed plenty of clothes, did plenty of fittings. They looked at my ideas, with some sort of weird confusion, while I tried to explained what type of clothes are good for petite figure, and for bigger stomach. The thing with Stitch Fix is that they have this "vision" of how their client supposed look like: she has to wear cheap skinny jeans, ugly knit top for a 80 year old auntie, dated "bohemian" jewelry". The people who interviewed me, had no fashion background, they did not UNDERSTAND what fitting is, they could not answer my question regarding their premium/lux department. Half the time I could tell they have no idea what I am taking about. I knew there and then, I won't be hired and that the reviews here were correct. Out of curiosity I checked later their "Senior Stylist's" profiles on LinkedIn. I checked about 20 profiles and all of the "Stylists" before Stitch Fix, had worked either as receptionists, homemakers/housewives, secretaries, sales associates. Nobody had fashion related experience. Stitch Fix is not looking to hire experiened individuals. They want someone who will be unrefined, inexperienced, someone who is not I guess more knowledgeable then the interviewers, since they will be your "Leads", your managers. I guess this also explains the horrible pay. It is only 15$ per hour, no negotiation. If you are educated in fashion, experienced and have good taste, do not even bother applying. What confuses me, is why they invited me in the first place! What a waste of time for me and them. Also Stitch Fix should change the name. The title "Stylist" does not match what they looking for.
